thank you Simon for your incursion here.
This forum has an history.
the first Caroline's forum on Netscape came to its end several months
ago. I felt Caroline disturbed by this end.
She tried a new forum on the Calypso island, but she felt off colour
there.
I made this forum only for her in the beginning, as a quiet place for
her.
then I added some tests.
and I am surprised and glad to find you there.
I have had another beginning of experience with another forum that
you can see at

It seems a shame that this forum has such a good look but is just
sitting here unused. What is the purpose of it? I could use it for a
number of things, mainly posting stuff that others would probably not
approve of on other forums. I run my own private forum just for
myself and write copious amounts of notes, questions to myself and
reminders of things to remember (not necessarily 'accurate') and
could occasionally offer the better bits and pieces of them here for
either thought, comment or to lead on to other dialogues between us.
Also I like the fact that this place is a closed forum with only 8
memebers, as I do feel a bit vulnerable on open_work that there are
at least thirty silent members infront of whom I must parrade my own
private thoughts, work and questions. I like the idea of a quiet out
of the way place...
Any comments on the above?

When spring weather (blue skies, heat of the sun) appears I think
about reading books. Outdoors.
Other people think about bathing suits, and going to various kinds of
bodies of water, and sex and all that, and that's great........
I, for some reason, feel alot of momentum to read five or six or seven
books in quick succession. Difficult and great books. On into the
summer months. In fall, it's different. I know many people think of
fall as a book-reading season. Maybe I read SOME in fall. But around
the turn of winter into spring is when I feel the most motivation to
read powerful, great books.
The powerful, great books often are very long. That's why I can only
read five or six or seven into the summer months.
It happens that you get into conversation on the subject of the
Fourth Way with people on these email list forums without realizing
that the person you are talking to has no understanding of the basics
of the Work language to begin with. Either they have only encountered
Gurdjieff's writings or, if they have an aquaintance with the Work
language as it's presented in Ouspensky's books they have never really
studied it and approached any kind of beginning of an overall
knowledge or fluency with it.
Then they accuse you of being too 'intellectual'.
Or, they accuse you of being 'all knowledge and no being', etc.
Then they say, 'You need to be in a group.' before they throw their
last hissy fit and walk off.
Well, you CAN'T begin to approach any degree of fluency in this Work
language without actually DOING the practices of the Work. That's
how, along with the study, you build and create understanding of it
all within yourself. Increasing Being.
And you can't communicate with others if you're not speaking the same
language. That's what a higher language gives you. The ability to
actually start to understand one another.
What do people think this Work is all about if they havn't studied it
and they don't do it and then they don't even work on any development
needed prior to making contact with it all to begin with...
This is 'the sound of one hand clapping' approach to the Work. It can
take up people's entire lives... - C.

Athena is of another order of time.
Athena is here when you are ready and willing to be with her.
She can be in more than one place at a time, though she will be here
completely when you are in her presence.
Athena is patient.
She admires those her contact her, and who wish to make contact with
her.
She does not humor anyone, though.
Even her favorites will have to experience the sides of her they need
to experience, which may not be pleasant.
She is a goddess and she has command.
Reverence for her is natural, though it must be self-motivated and
based on something real.
She can take any form.
She can give you supernatural gifts.
She may choose to be your companion for a journey, or if you are in
times of trouble.
She is a high goddess and the companion of mystery.
She is of a higher order of time, and she is patient and always there,
yet you do not have infinite time to find her.

These works, along with the main sources for the Work language (In
Search of the Miraculous, the Fourth Way, the Psychology of Man's
Possible Evolution), [and also along with the balanced development of
the higher divisions of centers], if absorbed fully, with real
understanding attained, will make one a true candidate to potentially
attain real, true development along the lines of the ideas and
practices and goals of the Work itself. They will, in other words,
make you a very unusual person. To know these twelve works means you
have to know alot (and alot more). These are a standard. They
require effort and time. They (you) are worth it. - C.
the Work
For the lesser divinities (nymphs, etc.) and the divinites (gods,
goddesses, etc.) the Work is life itself. It is their Being. Above
the level of what nature gives you it is all creating yourself. - C.
I like the new image and look of the forum. Keep this forum up and
let it grow gradually. I can use it, and maybe others as well, as a
peaceful out-of-the-way place to write things...
Robert of France (he actually lives in France) is the moderator of
this forum. Before he retired he was a French lawyer, which is not
the same as what a 'lawyer' is in the U. S. but is more of an
arbitrator of disputes, like labor disputes or contract disputes,
etc... (He may have done other things, but I don't know about
them...)
Being a French lawyer seems to be an interesting background for
moderating a Fourth Way forum, anyway...
I know he prefers short, to-the-point essays that stick to the basics
of the Work (there is infinity of poetry in the basics of the Work,
though)... [This also might have to do with the fact that English is
not his first language, yet he writes it very well...in that he
communicates his thoughts...]
He's very nice and has tact and wit and common-sense. He just
recently rediscovered his interest in the ideas and practices and
goals of the Work. - C.
ps- Anything else about Robert of France he will have to tell you...
