I know that I can not just throw something away that was once used on a regular basis, because you never know when the new thing that replaced it might die, and you have to have a backup just in case, right? But as you get older you discover that you now have backups for the backups that you haven't used in over a decade, but that sentimental feeling is still there, and you just can't bring yourself to condemn that once loved and respected item to the trash heap. What to do?

There is an answer, FreeSharing.

With FreeSharing your item will continue it's life in someone else's home instead of wasting away unused in your junk room or heading to the dump to be buried along with other abandoned relics. With FreeSharing, someone else gets something they need and you get a good feeling by passing on something you weren't using anymore. Think of it like signing an Organ Donor Card for your stuff.

How do you start on the road to recovery?

There is a simple 8 step program:

1. Check the directory for a local FreeSharing group.

2. Join the group or if no group exists in your area consider starting one. (Its very easy to do, and we'll help spread the word for you)

3. Look in your junk room and select one item that you feel would be happier in a new home.

4. Post an OFFER on the group for your item, feel free to express how good the item was to you and how well it served you.

5. When you start to get replies, wait a little bit before you just give it away, read all the messages and decide what would be the best new home for your item.

6. Send your chosen receiver an email and arrange for them to pick up the item at a location that is convenient for you. (home, work, the plaza).

7. Meet the receiver and give your item away, knowing that it will have a nice new home and make someone very happy.
