Urban Care Mission Statement, Goal and Objectives (April 02:

Urban Care is an open community–based organisation designed to achieve community participation in the enhancement and beautification of Palmerston North.

Mission Statement:

To enhance community wellbeing, both mental and physical , through the provision of an improved landscape while at the same time improving the City as a desirable visitor destination.

Goal:

To work with the community, other groups and organizations in order to achieve our goals and objectives to promote and work towards the beautification of Palmerston North City.

Objectives:

• To encourage ecological enhancement of the urban environment through the use of appropriate plantings and landscaping, thereby providing increased bio-diversity, shade and shelter, and extending the links in the public green corridors into private land.

• To engender an ethic among landowners, residents and businesses of responsible property management and presentation, with a special emphasis on street frontages.

• To encourage in citizens a sense of belonging and pride in the environs, thereby leading to a reduction in vandalism and theft of plant materials and other community property.

• To foster recognition of local cultural and heritage values and integrate cultural identity and artwork into the urban environment.

• To take practical steps towards becoming an environmentally sustainable City, with energy efficiency and waste reduction being among our goals.

• To raise public awareness of our goals and objectives.

• To undertake incentive programs, projects and events as required.

• To raise funds towards achieving our goals and objectives.

• To operate in an agreed formal manner with an open membership policy.
