Voluntary simplicity is a movement back to the basics of healthful living in every aspect of life--physical, mental and spiritual. It stresses the interconnection of our personal lifestyles with those of our fellow beings and with the health of our planet, our Mother Earth. Simple living is related to the sacred vow of poverty taken by monastics, though Yogananda replaced poverty with 'Simplicity' because in that consciousness we "become more healthy than the average person, more joyous, more bountiful in every way."

A spirit of harmony, respect and tolerance for other list members and for the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda, as well as for the One Truth in all spiritual traditions, is maintained on this list. The practical application of the SIMPLICITY principle is unique for each individual. What may be a simple solution for one may be more complicated for another.
