Ah, PULP MAGAZINES of the 1900's-late 1950's. From the heroism of DOC SAVAGE, The SHADOW, The SPIDER, G-8, LONE EAGLE
to the Adventure Stories in ARGOSY, SHORT STORIES, ADVENTURE, TOP-NOTCH MAGAZINE
to War/Aviation pulps like WINGS, DARE-DEVIL ACES, WAR STORIES, WAR NOVELS, ACES
to the SCARCE/RARE titles such as SCARLET ADVENTURESS, NOVELETS, WILD GAME STORIES, FAME AND FORTUNE MAGAZINE,
also the Spicies, Weird Menace , Westerns, Science Fiction, Love, Sports...
But which issues are worth spending your hard earned money on ? This group is for YOU. I'd like members to supply Pulp Story Cliffsnotes to stories you've read (brief or long) so other can know if they my be interested in finding and buying an issue. Favorite authors, but not just "I like L. Patrick Greene", list story types and why you gather towards him.
I'd also like this to be a place to list CHARACTER APPEARANCES INDEX so we know, again, what issues to hunt down. Especially obscure characters like Shorty McKay by Ray Humphreys in WESTERN STORIES or Preacher Devlin by L. L. Foreman in WESTERN ACES or ones like The Major by L. Patrick Greene that don't have a complete listing anywhere. (Think of Will Murray's Pulp Superhero Index http://tinyurl.com/3zke4y2 ).
If you are reprinting Pulp stories, like ADVENTURE HOUSE, Matt Moring of ATLAS PRESS, or AGE OF ACES great aviation titles, please let members know about all your titles and up-coming ones.
When joining , please post a introductory message to the group that tells us your name and something about your interest in pulp magazines (afterwards if you want (but I hope not) you can go into "lurking mode").
Please attend PULPFEST 2012 to be held in Columbus, Ohio from Aug. 9 - 12, 2012; Visit their convention website at http://www.pulpfest.com/ . You won't be sorry.
