Yes, it’s already that time again! As many of you now know, Dixie Canyon's 2010 Backlot Party & Auction will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2010, from 5:30 – 10:30 p.m., on the New York Street Backlot at CBS Studios in Studio City.
The theme for this year’s Auction is "A Night In Las Vegas - Dixie Canyon Avenue School Style,”which
promises to be a fantastic time for everyone to let his or her hair
down, play some Poker, Blackjack and Roulette, bid at the auction, and
just PARTY!
Please
save-the-date on your calendars for our school’s Auction... April 24,
2010. This is a great event - a lot of fun and for us to continue to “Speak To A Generation Through A Generation.”All
monies raised from this year’s event will continue to help fund our
Computer Lab, Art, and Drama programs, but especially to fund what will
be Dixie’s new Science Lab and bringing Music and Instruments back into
our school. These are programs not paid for by LAUSD and if we do not
raise enough monies to sustain them, then they will be cut from the
school schedule, but more importantly, from our kids ability to fully
have the education and enrichment in which they so desperately need.
In other words, “Don’t Be Tardy For This School Year’s Party.”By the way, please invite all of your friends and their friends (married or single), and family to this year’s event.
Further information and needs for this event will follow shortly.
Put those shopping bags down, brave the rain, and stop by Carneys
this weekend. Carneys is giving 25% of all sales back to Dixie today,
Saturday and Sunday, from 11 am to 10 pm. So send family, friends and neighbors to Carneys. The flyer is attached, but
it is not necessary to have it with you. Just tell them you're "with
Dixie." Go Get em Dixie!!!
Attached is the December Dixie Newsletter, in it's full-color pdf form. Please take a look at it to catch up on what is happening at our school, and to also see who is generously sponsoring our school (including Atlas Audio Video & Communications, which was inadvertantly omitted from our printed newsletter – my apologies!).
There are camps to send your kids to over the holidays, a coupon to save on haircuts, tutoring services, piano lessons, dance classes (salsa for grown-ups!), and even manicure services to take advantage of during this holiday season. Please let all our sponsors and advertisers know any way you can, how much they are appreciated by our school.
We have more great enrichment from STAR. A parent was raving about the Monday class and said people do not know about it. So STAR asked for a blast. There is a schedule below...Remember you do NOT need to join STAR to enjoy these enrichment classes. My son has taken them and loved them. Please see the attachment for more details. GO DIXIE!!!
Mondays@STAR: The Brain is the Game @ 2:45-3:45(K-2), 3:45-4:45(3-5) FEE:$128
It's finally here!!! Next week Dixie Canyon Avenue School will open the doors of its beautiful
Annual Kids Holiday Gift Boutique for a 1-week limited engagement!
Every
class will have the opportunity to come to Room 30 and buy gifts for
their brothers, sisters, moms, dads, grandparents and anybody else they
want to shop for. Prices range from 50 cents to $10.00.
You
will be hearing from your room parents for your class' specific time.
It would be a good idea for you to send along a list of names as well
as whatever money you are sending with your child. Friday will be an
open shopping day for everyone and the Shoppe will be open until 2:00
every day even on early dismissal days.
WE STILL NEED VOLUNTEERS! Please let George Collins know when can help at dixiecanyonvolunteers@... as
soon as possible. We could also really use donations of festive
wrapping paper, gift bags and tape. Please try to keep it
non-religious and non-denominational. We will be placing a bin for
this purpose next to the PTA/sign-up board. Please drop your donations
there.
Thanks a lot for all your help!! This is going to be such a fun event especially for the kids!

Attached is the yearbook order form. The deadline for ads and tribute pages is February 15th. The yearbook orders will be ongoing until they arrive in early June. However, we have to tell the company how many we are ordering by February 15th so preordering is the only way you are going to guarantee your child a yearbook.
Order forms will be going out in the next week or so but I am attaching it here as well. I have also pasted it down below.
Every child will be featured provided their picture was taken on picture day. If they missed those days, it will be up to you the parent to submit a photo in JPEG format on a CD labelled with your child's name, teacher and room number and grade and say "class picture" so thta we know what it is for.
Tribute pages are where you can dedicate a full page, 1/2 page or quarter page to just your child. When these are submitted they must be a finished product in JPEG format with pictures and writing etc so that our team can drag and drop them into a template. Places like Staples, Kinkos and Office Depot can scan your images and burn them onto a CD if you do not know how to do this. deadline for these are on February 15, 2010. Don't wait until the last minute. Limited amount of pages will be sold so first come first serve!
PLEASE, PLEASE...do not email me or the yearbook team any photos. Most email programs reduce the quality of the photo and some of us do not have the capability to burn CD's. So, to avoid any confusion or the possibility of your photos not getting into the yearbook, please submit them on a CD with your child's name, teacher, room number and your phone number and name so if we cannot read it we can get another one from you. Make a back up please. Last year several people submitted CD's that were unreadable.
All orders for the yearbook or the tribute pages and ads must be paid for to guarantee your copy or tribute/ad spot. Please do not submit cash. We had several people that submitted cash and it never made it to the yearbook committee. If you submit cash, it is at your own risk. These orders and enevelopes pass through many hands before getting to their final destination.
Thank you ,

2 Things! I will see you all tonight at CPK for dinner. BTW, 20% goes to the school. You can order out as well...just have a copy of the flier.(see attachment) Secondly, a family donated $1000 to the Covert Committee. This committee is to seek out and help our families who are being most challenged. All of this money will go to support our Dixie Families in need. I am most proud of this spirit of giving. A Pumpkin Fair is great, but if a family is struggling to eat...well, we know what to do at Dixie. Lets really brighten up these holidays for everyone by giving...and asking for nothing in return. Our name will not go in a news letter. There is no shout out at a PTA meeting. No trophies. Just the spirit of giving...If you want to match this gift or donate anything to help one of these families...Contact me and I will
get the information to the right people. Be well...J
Hello Dixie!!! We will see you in the morning for drop off/pick up. Drop off your recycling and pick up your scripp. Also, tomorrow at CPK in Studio City is restaurant night for Dixie! Hello Dixie!!! Tomorrow morning we will have an assembly to announce the winners of the Pumpkin Fair Raffle. YES!!! But what about ALL the Chocolate winners??? Yep, them too!!! You all did a brilliant job for Dixie!!! Our wonderful Librarian Wendy has asked me for vacuum, for our Library. So I am asking you...We really need about 4 vacuums for the school...Good ones. Can you help? It never hurts to ask...If so just bring them into the office. Reminder...tomorrow bring your recycling to the school. Pick up your Scripp for the week. Have a cup of M STREET Coffee. Andrea the owner, will be there and she is giving Dixie 20% of her sales...So Sweet! PTA Meeting Thursday night, where we will reveal all the numbers for the Pumpkin Fair and the final chocolate totals. Although, it really is only second to the fact that the kids had a great time...that
comes first!!! Have a great night Dixie families...Jay

We have a quiet committee, called "the covert committee". This is the committee that tries to find the kids and families that need a little help. What they have found is that some kids at our school will not have a Halloween costume. It just is not in the budget for these families. The committee has asked me to ask you for used or unused costumes for these kids. They requested them to be clean and with no rips. This will be handled anonymously...so no big productions. We just had our big production...The Pumpkin Fair...now it is time to get back to serving our families...ALL of them. Please bring them to the office asap....so these kids can be in our parade. Also, your old and unused reading glasses can be turned into the office. They will be sent to the needy who cannot
read because they cannot see the words. Find out more at the next PTA meeting. Bring
your recycling to the school tomorrow and keep our school on the GREEN path. All the best, Jay @ Dixie

The Pumpkin Fair is totally complete... Our children at Dixie and surrounding schools, totally had memory that they will take with them for the rest of their lives. The entertainment was totally awesome! The rides and games were totally off the hook. The fact that over 150 volunteers came together to work over time? Totally brilliant! So the totals are great!
In short, I am so proud of what we created for Dixie! BTW, this was not my idea. It was last years PTA board. Me and a countless group of others just gave it a little help. I can promise you this, the children are going to be talking about their
Pumpkin Fair for a long time. I am so tired, that I am in tears right now. My feet and back ache. I am beyond exhaustion. I cannot even sleep. I would not have it any other way...With love and respect, Jay Laisne' PTA Presient at Dixie and co chair of the Pumpkin Fair 2009 with Katarina Scheele...baby!

We have volunteers...we need and want more to work the Pumpkin Fair...so please see us in the morning. Heck take the day off tomorrow, you hate that job anyway. I loathe asking for things...it is not in my nature. However, i must! And sometimes you gotta ask for things. So, here is the list of things the school needs for The Pumpkin Fair to soar as high as possible: For the Dixie Face Painting Booth:
1). Spritzing bottles
2). Water containers (10 and I'm thinking Tupperware:??)
3). At least 2 dump buckets
4). Paper towels Dixie daddy's BBQ: 1) cases of bottled water. 2) cases of sodas( regular and diet). 3) Paper plates and napkins. 4) Wipes...You know how messy Daddies can be. 5) Paper Towels. 6) Tattoos Anyone want to bring their BBQ, so I don't have to bring mine? We need it Friday.
Final note...if you are a parent that has been nervous about getting involved....I understand. For 2 years I didn't do much at all for my school, because I didn't know that there was a need for little ole me. We WANT little ole you. Show up Friday to help set up the fair if you can, and we will work side by side...the way it is suppose to be. Sign up with George at dixiecanyonvolunteer@..., for Saturday at The Pumpkin Fair or anything else that will help a child. Heck the Wonder of reading program has kids waiting for someone to help them. There is always something to do...Tomorrow we paint banners at noon, come on out. Get your tickets now for 50% off at www.thepumpkinfair.com. They will Not be available on the 24th. Have a great night Dixie Families...Jay at Dixie
