PNG Solidarity Action is a Sydney based activist collective, organising a campaign in Australia in support of progressive activists in PNG who are fighting against the World Bank, IMF, Australian economic imperialism and other aspects of neo-colonial globalisation.

In June 2001, 4 people were murdered by paramilitary police during peaceful anti-privatisation protests in Port Moresby. Since then, we have been working with students, unions and other progressive groups in PNG and Australia to raise awareness about this struggle, get justice for those killed and injured, and provide concrete support to activists in PNG.

So far we have hosted a delegation of PNG Students who were involved in the protests, been involved in a delegation to PNG (led by the Australian Council of Trade Unions), held awareness raising events in Australia and been in continuous contact with our PNG comrades. Support from progressive groups in Australia has been overwhelming and we continue to work with many groups from diverse backgrounds.

This list is an unmoderated discussion list (anyone can send messages). While we want to encourage discussion and information sharing, we ask that members respect that everyone is busy and probably get far too many emails as it is. Basically, we want to try and keep emails to campaign planning and discussion. We also have many files saved on the yahoogroups page of media clippings and other documents. If you feel that you don’t want to be part of general discussion, but do want to keep up to date, you should probably join PNGSolidarity@yahoogroups.com instead.

Although we are based in Sydney, we have a solidarity email list (PNGSolidarity@yahoogroups.com) that has members from around Australia, some of whom are ready to mobilise as opportunities for actions arise.
