The Navy League is the foremost citizens' organization to serve, support, and stand with the U.S. Sea Services - the Navy, www.navy.mil, Marine Corps, www.marines.mil, Coast Guard, www.uscg.mil, and the U.S. flag Merchant Marine, www.marad.dot.gov. The League has a network of 225 councils and 46,000 members. This energetic council was chartered 11 December 2006.
The council hosts luncheons with noted guest speakers in Oakland or aboard our "adopted" National Liberty Ship Memorial S.S. JEREMIAH O'BRIEN, Pier 45, San Francisco, www.ssjeremiahobrien.org. Please join us June 1.
We sponsor and support the Arkansas Division Sea Cadets, San Francisco, www.arkansasdivision.org. This outstanding division has a Merchant Marine orientation.
We welcome new members and invite participation as "Citizens in Support of the Sea Services." Being a mariner or veteran is not a prerequisite. This council supports the U. S. flag Merchant Marine - U. S. built, owned, and registered vessels with U. S. citizen officers and crews, the nation's maritime industry and the maritime trade organizations. We honor our nation's seafarers; we celebrate National Maritime Day. Internationally piracy is a focus; regionally it's Pacific Coast Marine Highway commerce.
Visit the League's website, www.navyleague.org. For the council this award winning website (NLUS #1 2007, #2 2008) is a primary means of communications with members and the public. The council has a social and professional presence using Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, Xing, Sea Folks, etc.
