The Navy League is the foremost citizens' organization to serve, support, and stand with the U.S. sea services - the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and the U.S. flag Merchant Marine. The Navy League has a network of 225 councils and nearly 50,000 members. This council, the Maritime Logistics Council, was chartered 11 December 2006 and is energetic! Membership is climbing and retention is 100%.
The council hosts luncheons with noted guest speakers in Oakland or aboard our "adopted" National Liberty Ship Memorial S.S. JEREMIAH O'BRIEN, Pier 45, San Francisco; 1130 for the social and noon for the luncheon. We always honor our nation's seafarers. Internationally piracy is a focus; regionally it is Pacific Coast marine highway commerce.
In 2009 we initiated sponsorship and support for the Arkansas Division Sea Cadets, San Francisco. The unit has a Merchant Marine orientation.
We welcome new members and invite participation as "Citizens in Support of the Sea Services." Being a sailor or veteran is not a prerequisite. This council supports the U. S. flag Merchant Marine - U. S. built, owned, and registered vessels with U. S. citizen officers and crews, the nation's maritime industry and the maritime trade organizations.
Online visit the League's website, http://navyleague.org. For the council this award winning website (NLUS #1 2007, #2 2008) is a primary means of communications. The council also has a web presence on Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, Xing, Sea Folks, and elsewhere.
