I will try, but please be gentle-- none of this represents my own original
research. Like Blanche duBois, I have always relied upon the kindness of
strangers. . . .
There were quite a few Samuel Peacheys on both sides of the pond apparently
during this period. Unfortunately, I do not have complete family groups.
But here is what I do have:
Catherine Peachey, born 4 May 1776 in Essex County, Va. Died 21 June 1858
at "Croshaw," the home of James A. Fleet in King and Queen County. Married
Josiah Ryland (1767-1850) in Essex Co. 18 June 1802. Her brother William was
born before 14 Mar 1767. I have nothing further on him.
They were the children of Samuel Peachey of Essex Co., 26 Feb 1731/32 to 29
Dec 1783, and Catherine Webb. Catherine was the daughter of John Webb and
Jane Smith, and a lengthy pedigree for her through Giles Webb is available
from http://www.rootsweb.com/~gumby/genweb/Webb/Webb.html
Samuel was the son of Capt. Samuel Peachey, 14 Sep 1699 to 2 Oct 1750. He
married Winifred Griffin (d.1739) in Northumberland County 13 May 1725.
Capt. Samuel was the son of William Peachey (d. 1700) and Phoebe Smith.
Phoebe had three other husbands in her time. Some sources say she was the
daughter of Phoebe Slaughter, but I believe she WAS Phoebe Slaughter (married
name), the daughter of Capt. Tobias (Toby) Smith and Phoebe Fauntleroy.
And William was the son of Lt. Col. Samuel Peachey, the emigrant from
Mildenhall to Richmond. I guesstimate his birth as ABT 1627. The colonel's
wife was Elizabeth Webb.
I do not have the connection between Elizabeth Webb and Catherine Webb's
family, I wish I did.
Regards to all ---- Walter Ryland
