A group of us got out on Upper quartzville today around 3000cfs. The run went
well, fast and big. First off, snow is not an issue. BUT, due to the freeze/thaw
action the road is scattered with rock fall. Would not suggest a low clearance
car or all wheel drive. Rocks are fist size to 2 feet. We cleared some of them
up. The biggest issue was that with 2 trucks, we had 3 flat tires from rock
punctures. This made for a long night, but that is another story. Lower
quartville would be accessible if attentive while driving in a regular car.

Cheers,
-Eric

Classic Super Fun with normal river wear.  Ready to roll with backband, happy feet bag, and Jackson float bag.  Orange.  Great boat for the larger paddlers among us or those with a shoe size over 13!

Kayak Polo is back in Portland!!! (well actually about 2 seconds into Vancouver)

After a long wait and some uncertainty about the future of kayak polo in Portland we are happy to announce the return of this super fun activity.  It's a great way to improve your paddling (and get a heck of a workout!).

You don't need to know much or have ever played before, you don't even need gear...Alder Creek will provide you with everything you need if you are new to the sport.  Just ask.

Pool time ain't cheap...we want to fill EVERY session, so check out the super low "full season" pricing.

You can find a link with rules below.  Don't worry, we help people learn along the way.  It's easy!  and SUPER FUN!!

Kayak Polo

EVERYONE IS WELCOME! Never played? No worries, we'll bring you up
to speed!  T-rescue and rolling skills do come in handy but are NOT required.

Participants should have experience wet-exiting a kayak prior to playing.  There is practice space available to try wet-exits and rolls on site.

Where: Marshall Community Pool

1009 E McLaughlin Blvd, Vancouver    a 10min from downtown PDX! It's really easy to find (just off Mill Plane Rd about 1/4 mile east of I-5 )

When: Every Sunday, 6:00pm-7:30pm Jan 3rd 1st session - Feb 21st (last session) THAT'S 8 SESSIONS!!!

Cost: $40 for 8 game season or $10 per game

Bring: whitewater kayak, pfd, paddle, & spray skirt

*helmets w/ face masks are provided.

Questions?  Just contact me (Paul) at Alder Creek 503.285.0464

Polo Rules Page

Also, check out our online calendar at www.aldercreek.com for other fun activities and events.

PS  Shannon Can you post this to the OKCC list? and
Chris W. can you post this to OOPS??

Thanks!

Well, it's happened again, my hopes for a salmonberry trip quashed. It seems
that people would rather go playboating than have an adventure. This reminds me
too much of climbing. "we don't wanna go on some horrible trad climb up a crack
in the middle of nowhere, can't we just go sport climbing at smith rock?"

Blah I say! What is the purpose of life if not adventure? and what could be
more adventurous than hideous shuttle and a run down a potentially wood filled
70fpm narrow class 3-4 river. Who knows what perils or rewards await those
willing to wake up early and drive 4wd roads in small cars in the dark?

I have a chainsaw, I have hundreds of feet of rope, I have two comealongs, a big
roll of duct tape, and a creekboat, I shall prevail!

Do I hear an amen? Does anyone dare join me on this adventure? Call tonight,
I'm leaving EARLY!

I've decided to buy myself a new boat as a Christmas present to myself. Would
anyone living in, or traveling through the Grants Pass / Merlin area and heading
to Portland be willing to pick-up this boat for me. Shipping it is far to
expensive for my liking.

The Sotar warehouse is about 3 miles off of I-5, right by the Grants Pass
airfield.

Thank you,

Man I hate the sun. Finally things are back to normal, it's pouring and the
rivers are coming up again. My girlfriend is dragging me to a warm tropical
place next weekend so I'm trying to get in as many runs as I can. My buddy is
back in Georgia right now so I'm looking for people to paddle with! Here is my
tentative plan for the week.

Wednesday: Devils lake fork of the wilson
Thursday: Salmonberry river (shuttle be damned, I'm gonna do it!)
Friday: Jordan Creek

There should be enough water. If you've got a solid roll and are comfortable
dodging wood in continuous class 3-4 whitewater then c'mon out!
