PALE stands for "Professionalism, Administration, and Leadership in Education." We are a Special Interest Group (SIG) in the Japan Association for Language Teaching (JALT). Since 1995 we have been raising issues and documenting specific cases related to professionalism, employment issues, legal issues, ethics, and research affecting language education. We publish the PALE Journal of Professional Issues. Anyone is welcome to join our listserv.

Incidentally, you can also join the PALE SIG, a part of JALT (and a dues-paying subsidiary of this free mailing list, see more at http://jalt.org/groups/PALE). The Membership policy for the PALE SIG is as follows:

1500 yen annual dues for SIG membership for JALT members (includes "PALE News" newsletter subscription and SIG voting rights and officer eligibility). Dues are the same for people living in Japan or outside of Japan.

2000 yen annual subscription for people who are not JALT members (includes "PALE News" newsletter subscription, but not SIG voting rights or officer eligibility). Subscription rate is the same for people living in Japan or outside of Japan. (Sorry, but we don't have a category of SIG membership (with SIG voting rights and officer eligibility) for non-JALT members. JALT doesn't allow it.)
