Description

Pa-Unschoolers is an inclusive community with Unschooling as the focus. Anyone is welcome to join, and learn more about this fun and interesting way of learning. Friendly chatter is encouraged about any subject but expect that unschoolers will chime in and offer unschooling suggestions to help solve problems of ALL kinds whether they be educational or parenting, since this is a group dedicated to unschooling as a way of life, AKA Radical Unschooling. For clarity's sake, unschooling has a definition on this list:

Imagine a universe where there was never any such thing as school. And there was never any such thing as learning benchmarks, or expectations that children learn certain things by a certain age. Imagine a life of summer vacation, all year round, with no worries that your child is "on grade level", "behind", or "ahead", or "gifted". Imagine just living each day as it comes, doing whatever you find enjoyable, learning whatever you bump into, knowing without a doubt that everyone learns what they need to know, when they bump into a need to know it. This can happen anytime, at any age, for any reason, and none of them are "wrong".

Imagine also, trusting your child to learn ALL things about life this way: You know, those things parents worry about like: appropriate behavior, nutrition, hygiene, tv, videogames, etc.

It can and does work but don't expect it to be easy. This is not unparenting, in fact, it is the hardest kind of parenting there is, with complete engagement between parents and children, 24/7, where parents look for ways to solve problems without resorting to rules.

Above all, you will get the most out of this list by keeping an open mind.

Please note, if you would like to join Pa-Unschoolers, you MUST provide your full email address. Although yahoogroups gives the option of not disclosing your address, we require it for approval of membership. Without it, your request for membership will be denied.
