Outpost is a Windows-based TNC message client that lets you send and receive packet messages with almost any Amateur Radio Bulletin Board System (BBS) or TNC Personal Mail Box.
This Reflector has been created to provide a common forum for users of Outpost. Comments, questions, hints and general discussion is encouraged. The Files section has the latest versions of Outpost.
Outpost has been designed for the ARES/RACES packet user community. The thinking behind it was to create an intuitive, easy-to-use program that lets ARES/RACES organizations focus on the "message," not the "medium," as they pass packet traffic to and from an Operational Area BBS.
Outpost has a similar look and feel to other contemporary mail clients. It features Windows-driven forms and screens that handle creating, sending, receiving, and storing packet messages on your PC. It also can run automatically where it periodically checks for out-going and in-coming messages.
Outpost does not support any message forwarding protocol (such as F6FBB's). Instead, it generates the user TNC and BBS commands, and interprets the TNC and BBS prompts to send to, list, and retrieve messages from the BBS. It essentially automates the keyboard entry and interpretation performed by the user.
Release 2.3 is the latest release and adds Scripting as a means for further extending the packet messaging automation capabilities. It also delivers several enhancements for Winlink, TNC, and BBS management as well as resolves a variety of defects found since v2.2 was released. See http://www.outpostpm.org/ for details on this release, as well as the contents of past releases.
