I have to agree with you, she's the best researched author I've ever read. I
bought Outlandish Companion the day it was released but have never read it all
the way through. Something else to think about. Dewey

They are addictive. The best written, most thoroughly researched of anything
in this genre I have ever read.

Have you read the Outlandish Companion? You will really get a feel for how
she works, the detail and depth to which she forms these characters, even
outside of the novels. And the short piece that she shares about "A Day in
Her
   Life" is outrageously funny.

I haven't purchased the Outlandish Companion. I really want it but right now I'm
trying not to go over my book budget cause I have these massive dental bills....
plus DG reintroduced me to my love of books.

I had gotten so sick of the stories out there and honestly I never did come
across DG before I was directed her way. One suggestion and suddenly I have tons
to read. I've been hearing what compares to DG's work (but doesn't surpass). So
I've gone from reading all DG's to Sarah Donati to Karen Marie Moning... SD & DG
are more alike in there story telling and KMM is just a guilty pleasure but I've
also been picking up a few classics like Little Woman and Pride and Prejudice...
I just want to read!

The Companion is something I really plan on getting it's just not that cheap
and I keep thinking of all the books I can get for the price of it.... but I
will own it! Mark my words!

Hello all!

I am a newbie to the group and to Outlander. I was introduced to DG's
work by my cousin's aunt (she's not my aunt). She made it sound
interesting but when I read the back cover at Borders I was
skeptical... but how could I pass up a book marked down to $4. That
was November of 2005. I have been done with the Jamie & Claire story
for almost two weeks (yep read all six)... I'm in withdrawl. I don't
read that fast... but I spent every spar moment with my head in my
books.

Now I'm trying to ebb this obsession by reading Sarah Donati's
books... mostly because I heard there was a mention of Claire in it...
and have discovered another great writer (she's now DG, but great).

Can't wait to chat up a storm. See ya around the group!

I think that we all have to remember that as an author, with millions
clamoring for more, Diana has to:

   1) Write a new book
   2) Write a new book that is interesting to her and to us.
   3) That means new characters. New excitement. Or we would all be complaining
that it was boring. More like REAL LIFE. LOL.

So, I think that she has to keep "ratcheting up and/or adding new twists".
New has to mean things that may be so new as to be controversial.

I for one just flat out admire the heck out of her...the books are WONDERFUL.

This has bothered me, too. I haven't made up my mind yet, but I do think that
there will be some interaction between the two generations. Whether another time
traveller carries messages, dreams continue to occur (as in Jamie's dream),
whatever. But there has to be some communication between the two families.

You aren't stupid, it is a little hard to keep up with all the
details of 1000 pages. I hope the next installment of Outlandish
companion comes quickly. DG uses the scene to explain how you can't
change the future. The printer used January instead of December in
his news piece because of some printer stuff with fonts. The house
burned and they escaped but their death is reported to the printer
so he is putting the story in but because the piece of type for
December is missing in the correct font he uses January,
philisophically saying it doesn't matter when they died b/c they are
dead. This explains how the news clip Roger and Briana found in the
20th century got to be there. No one changed history when the house
didn't burn. Or at least history compensated for the change. I
don't think fire is still a specter hanging over Jamie and Claire as
it was before. As for danger we shall see...They are planning a
trip to Scotland and it is wartime.

I agree the last section went zoom as she tied up the story. I am
intrigued by the whole thing Roger brings out to Briana at
Lallybroch. BTW isn't that cool how they are going to live there.

Hi!
Yes I did!! I'm a huge fan but parts of the book seemed off to me. The whole
thing with Claire and the governor, The whole Malva thing, Phadre and
Jocasta.....among others. I guess more will be explained in the next book.
Love all her books though and will re-read this one soon....maybe I read it too
fast and missed something?!!

That is very exciting news. I have always thought that Collum, Dougal and
Ellen would be a fascinating family to learn about. Particularly Ellen, who
sounds like a bit o' a wild thing.

   Hello Lanette here:
I'm afraid it will be over soon....probably with the next book. The book
didn't really center on Jamie and Claire, that is true, but it showed just how
they touch so many people...like ripples in the water. The character list is
growing and I think it made it that much more interesting because Diana doesn't
leave you wondering what the other characters are like. It looks like they will
be starting over again, tho, because the stage has been set to leave people
believing that Jamie and Claire are dead. Which leaves them alone again...in
the States, anyway.
Well, I am hooked. That's the best I can say.

I found the latest book to be riveting. Unlike books that are "Bodice
Rippers", Diana's books are full of the details of life, in a very realistic
way.
I am thrilled with the medical treatments, the dark sides of people's lives
and the continued development of all of the characters, including the new
ones. Jamie and Claire are older, and I found that their love is aging like a
good port...turning richer and deeper, with layer after layer of their story.
Compared to BRs, Diana does not serve you up the same story line,
embellished with new names, places and hair color. My hat is off the her once
again,
and as I contemplate the complex ending..my mind swirls with the possibilities
for new book(s).

Namaste,

Lanette

So...to the other Lanette....I find that I don't often run into someone with
their name spelled the same as mine...is there a story to yours?

Hello Lanette here:
I think the book was great. It is like real life where we all get caught up in
things and forget some of the more important things...the stuff we take for
granted. I know there wasn't as much sex as in the previous novels, but Jamie
and Claire are over 50 and getting ready for a war. I'm afraid it will be over
soon....probably with the next book. The book didn't really center on Jamie and
Claire, that is true, but it showed just how they touch so many people...like

Hello all! I am a big fan of the Outlander Series and thought I
would check your website out. I almost fell out of my chair when I
read that your website hosts a chatroom. Then I found out that the
chat isn't running. Please, Please put it back on. I would
absolutely love to be able to talk to other fans of the books. I
have been looking for a chat room devoted to Diana Gabaldon for some
time now and would love the opportunity to talk to you all.
Sincerely,
Desperate for Jamie talk. lol

I just signed up to this group about 10 minutes ago, and have
been 'catching up' on this years messages. I number one would love to
help moderate a chat as I am also online or can be online almost
every night. I think that as long as there are at least 3-4 people
interested in reinstating the chat it should be. I would absolutely
love to talk to you all 'real time' about the book... I haven't been
in a really good book disscusion in a very long time (well since
college, and we aren't even going to go there!):) and am really
looking forward to it. Another advantage is this... I do live in
Phoenix, Arizona, and needless to say, it was quite a nice suprize to
turn to the back cover and see that Mrs. D lives not all that far
away from me. Quite an advantage, considering that she, according to
her website, does book signings here in Phoenix pretty often.

I vote to reinstate the Chat! :0)
Beth

Folks... what do you think??? And if we restart chats-- when would
you like to have them rescheduled????

Marsha...
It's incredibly easy to set up chats on AOL...why not do it there? If
not there, there's this other site called "The Burryman" and I believe you can
host chats from there. Pretty easy to do.
I'm finishing up my own book so I don't have the time to get too
involved, but if others do, this might be a good solution.

Would love to chat again. Just started a re-read - out of desperation (lol), so
now would be a perfect time!

I've been thru a few screen names, but I was around at (almost, I think) the
beginning on AOL - (1997 or '98 maybe? scary how long ago that was!). Max,
you've come a long way, baby! And you did an excellent job wrangling us kitties
- even if you are a dog person, if I remember correctly.

Anyway, I vote yes!

Jane
