Description

The Phoebe Hall Knipling Outdoor Lab is nestled in the woodlands of the Bull Run Mountains in Broad Run, Virginia. Each year, 9000 Arlington County public school students are bused to the 210 acre Lab to learn science, outdoor skills and conservation through the use of interpretive displays, hiking and boating facilities, an animal lab, and an observatory. For almost forty years, children have been coming to the Outdoor Lab for day-long visits, overnight stays and week-long summer camps to have fun while they learn. The Outdoor Lab has several Open Houses each year and individual schools can make arrangements to have their own day at the Lab. The Outdoor Lab is staffed by trained teachers of the Arlington County Public Schools. The buildings and grounds of the Outdoor Lab are owned and maintained by the nonprofit Arlington Outdoor Education Association ("AOEA"). Tax deductible contributions may be made by designating #8375 in your United Way contribution or by sending a check to AOEA, P.O. Box 5646, Arlington, Virginia 22205. Photo Courtesy of Kelly Berger.
