Re: + OrthodoxWest Group + NEW THREAD

I didn't choose my name. It was suggested when I became a catechumen. I was born Joseph and baptized in the RCC for St Joseph the Betrothed.  When I became Orthodox, it was suggested to me that I should take the name of St Joseph of Petrograd. St Joseph was one of the major leaders (some say "the" leader) of the catacomb Church in Russia who had nothing to do with Sergius of Moscow. The ROCOR glorified him officially with the New Martyrs of Russia decades ago, while the Patriarchate refused to recognize him.

Even more tragic, now they are saying that he was not "really" the leader of the "schismatics" (the catacomb Church) and that these movements "formed" after him-- so they can "clean up history" and glorify him  in a separate service--alongside Sergius! In this they claim the glorification of the possessors and non-possessors are the example-- what a tragedy!

May the intercession of St Joseph assist us as we try to defend the true faith!

(people hve been asking me) Explain the concept of a Patron Saint.  What's the relationship?  How does the Person in question and the particular Saint interact after choosing?  :)
