Description
Opera Amici was founded in order to have a site in which those who love opera and singing can have a place in which both new and experienced people can share their love of this art form. It is somewhat more than that though in that it is also a place in which we can form web-based friendships across America and the world and a place where we can express our ideas, questions and joys without fear of someone else being either overly critical or dismissive of our thoughts - not even excessive bickering will be tolerated. Discussion of politics is forbidden.
We are generally a pretty active group. In particular, there will be projects from time to time, e.g. the development of the trio and quartet in opera, an examination of great baritones through the years, etc. Our current project is a Bass Tournament through which the members vote for the greatest basses (that left a recorded history) to determine who the group feels are the top basses. Discussions may cover a wider range of areas and any discussion which is about opera or singing and is positive in its direction will be allowed and encouraged.
In our discussions, we must also be cognizant that we are discussing artists that have put a great deal of time and effort into developing their careers and that they should at all times be treated with respect. Please keep any discussion about singers upbeat and positive. If you don't like a particular singer, either don't say anything or just say you don't care for them. Further explanation is neither necessary or desired unless you are specifically prodded by the membership.
While most of our discussions will be serious, they are also meant to be fun and enjoyable. As friends we will have a sense of humor about our enthusiasms. We should have fun in this group. If not, then we're not doing something right. So let's have fun here - it's what this group is for!
