The Oh Sew Easy Quilters group is dedicated to teaching Girl Scouts how to sew and quilt. Currently the girls are making patriotic quilts to gift to the Georgia War Veterans Retirement Home in Augusta, Georgia. Our goal is to have every resident own his or her very own patriotic quilt. The project teaches girls a life skill (quilting!), about patriotism, community service, teamwork, budgetting, and leadership. We recruit area quilt guilds and volunteers to help with our workshops. Once girls learn the basic quilting techniques we then ask them to take their skills back to their troop or group, and to help out at our quilt days. We are currently working very hard to keep up with making quilt kits for the Make a Difference Day Quilt-a-Thon which will be held October 25th, 2008 in Augusta. If you don't live in the Augusta area....no problem....write to us and we will send you a quilt kit with fabric and instructions. We have 22 states sending us a quilt top AND as of 9/15/08 we have now gone INTERNATIONAL with quilt tops coming from Seoul, South Korea, Australia, Canada and the UK!! How cool is this! Please drop us a note if you can help by volunteering: to mentor a Girl Scout troop quilt project in your area, putting together quilt kits, quilting finished quilt tops, donating fabric, thread and batting.
