"August 22, 2012: U.S. Peace Corps Director Aaron S. Williams announced yesterday, Tuesday, August 21, 2012, that he plans to resign from office on Sept. 17, 2012, due to personal and family reasons. In a resignation letter to President Obama, Williams did not elaborate on his reasons for resigning from the post. Williams was sworn in as the agency’s Director in August, 2009. Peace Corps Deputy Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet has been appointed as the agency’s Acting Director. She has been the Peace Corps Deputy Director since June, 2010. Williams was previously the Vice President for International Business Development for RTI International; a Senior Manager for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID); and an executive vice president for the International Youth Foundation."
