"August 22, 2012: U.S. Peace Corps Director Aaron S. Williams announced yesterday, Tuesday, August 21, 2012, that he plans to resign from office on Sept. 17, 2012, due to personal and family reasons. In a resignation letter to President Obama, Williams did not elaborate on his reasons for resigning from the post. Williams was sworn in as the agency�s Director in August, 2009. Peace Corps Deputy Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet has been appointed as the agency�s Acting Director. She has been the Peace Corps Deputy Director since June, 2010. Williams was previously the Vice President for International Business Development for RTI International; a Senior Manager for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID); and an executive vice president for the International Youth Foundation."
