Subject: 2008 Dog Days Surf Fishing Tournament to benefit The Town of Oak Island purchase of the Yaupon Pier

Update:  Grand Prize Announced

The North Carolina Public Access Foundation has announced that it will be giving out as a Grand Prize a ½ Day Fishing Charter donated by Fugitive Charters of Oak Island for its Dog Days Fishing Tournament. The Tournament benefits the Town of Oak Island efforts in the purchase of Yaupon Pier. The Fugitive is captained by Ryan Jordan and features, ½ Day, ¾ Day and Full Day Charters. This year alone the Fugitive has recorded nice catches of Cobia, Black-Tip, Kings and Grouper.  The fishing charter will be given out as a drawing among all registered participants.

Captain Jordan feels that an operating Yaupon Pier is necessary for the local economy and to provide fishermen an additional avenue to pursue their passion. "We need it to keep bringing people to the island and having a place for them to fish" Jordan says. Other Oak Island business feel just as strongly as the Fugitive's Captain as several local businesses have donated prizes to the tournament. So far those who have made donations include Captain Cove Motel, Cheap Geek Computer, The Bar-B-Que House, CJ Corner Store, Cape Fear Printing, Captain Stanley Seafood, San Felipe Restaurant,

Bella Cucina Italian Restaurant and Clem's Seafood.

The Dog Day's Surf Fishing Tournament is going to be held on August 23rd from 8:00 AM to 1:00PM at the far west ocean access on Oak Island. The cost of the tournament is $10.00 and for more information you can call Al Baird at 704-293-5524 or email at him at Roadkillal@... or visit the website at http://www.ncfps.com/Save_Yaupon_Pier.html.
