Anyone who is willing to spend  four hours or so digging should find geodes.   At Houser, it generally runs about 40 percent solids, 10 percent crystal-filled, and 50 percent duds on average.  The top of the ridge is more productive than the canyon, providing the BLM lets you dig there.  The last time I went to the site was several years ago, before the BLM really started taking an interest in the place.  

 If you take two vehicles, budget two gallons of drinking water per person per day (then drink the water!), and use wide-brimmed hats plus sunscreen, you could go there in the summer.  Otherwise, wait until late October or early November.
