Anyone researching these names. In the later 1800's, my
greatgrandfather's sister, Catherine (Kate) O'Donnell married Daniel
McCarron in Woburn MA. They relocated to Grand Prarie. They had (I
believe three children, John, Regina (or Rena), and Daniel).
Following husband Daniel's death, Kate married a Charles
Dillehoy/Dillehay and relocated to Ellsworth. I understand "someone"
owned a bank, or something to that affect.

Kate also had a sister that relocated to Minnesota. Believe her name
was Noraj. Annie, or Anna O'Donnell. She too married but, I have no
idea what her married name was.

Both Catherine and Nora/Annie/Anna were born in Ireland. Believe
they were from Carndonah or Clonmany. Be interested to hear any
information anyone might have.

I have just recently begun searching for my g-g-Granddad.

He came to Worthington working on the railroad and met his wife Emma Palm. They
had
their first son (that I know of) in 1883 Jon Harry Strom, then a daughter Anna
Strom. I am
looking for a marriage record from around 1880 (or so). of course any other
records that
may contain his date of birth or other info would be helpful in tracing him back
to Sweden.
The family lore says that he changed his name when he immigrated so I need all
the detail
I can get + lots of luck.

The following generations attended the Worthington Church of the Bretheren, but
the
church did not exist before 191X sometime so maybe another church from the same
area
near Reading, but in Nobles county I think.

I believe he was a city dweller (in Worthington?), his son drove horse-carriage
for a
politician as a job when he was growing up and only later in life turned to
farming.

Photos are here if it helps!

Any help would be appreciated,

Hello!

I found your group on the web, and I'm wondering if anyone can help me in my search.

My great-grandparents immigrated from Sweden as young adults and married in Worthington.  The parents of my great-grandfather also came to Worthington area.

I'm looking for records that would show a homestead, business, or burial spots.  How can I go about this search?

I'm planning to visit the area with my family this summer and we'd love to find an historical part of our family.

I look forward to hearing from you.  Thank you for your work.

Hi Sheryl -
What are the names of your great-grandparents? Do you know about what year they came to Nobles County? We should be able to run the names through our database and see if we have anything on your family.

You can search for homestead information at the BLM web site, link following.

Frank Dahlheim marred Ruth Kellam 9 Feb 1916

The Index we have only goes up to 1919.

Eric -
I did a search of our master database for the Strom surname. I don't
see a lot of info. that will help you. The August Strom from the Rose
History of Nobles County says in 1890 August Strom was appointed
police officer in Worthington. Let me know if any of the other
entries looks interesting and I will see if I can get a copy email to

HI, I am searching for information on my family a number of my
ancestors resided in Nobles County.

Samuel Landon Lyons: born in Pennsylvania 17MAY1847
died in Dundee, Nobles County, Minnsota in 1918 and is buried there.

Would anyone know where he is buried?

He served as town Marshall of Dundee, is there any record of this?

His wife, Catherine Rebecca Russell is also buried in Dundee having
passed 18DEC1942.

Again I would like to know where she is buried, I am planning a trip
to the area the first of July, and would like to visit the grave
sites if possible.

W. Woolstencroft, and his name was Benjamin Woolstencroft.

He was married to Mary Ann Kerr.

In looking at the Kerr family files, I noted that there was an

information about the father?

B. W. had a sister, Margery Jane Woolstencroft, who is my great-

This is an excellent resource. My grandfather's half brother (Roll) was the
first blacksmith in Adrian, was the first fire chief and played in the first
marching band. The Adrian Centennial book contains many family pictures as well
as pictures of the fire department, marching band and businesses.

For those of you who miss out on the ebay auction, you can probably still order
this book directly from the Adrian Chamber of Commerce like I did. You will
probably pay a little less than what it is going for on ebay too.

A history of Lakefield

By Julie Buntjer
jbuntjer@...

LAKEFIELD — Like so many towns on the southwestern Minnesota prairie,
Lakefield’s birth came about primarily because of the railroad — the Milwaukee
Railroad, to be specific.

Though the rail has long since closed, the small town on the western edge of
Jackson County has survived and thrived for 125 years. Residents will mark that
milestone this weekend during the community’s annual celebration.

One

of the town’s historians, Byron Kroeger, spent months poring through local
history books, articles and old editions of the town’s newspaper, the Lakefield
Standard, to create a keepsake for the thousands of people who have called
Lakefield home in those years. The result is a book published in late March that
spans the town’s 125-year history.

Kroeger, who was born and raised in Lakefield and now works part-time for the
Standard, has been a history buff for more than 25 years. The passion stems back
to his college days, when he took journalism and art history classes at the
University of Minnesota.

He began researching Lakefield history about a decade ago, but really delved
into it last summer in preparation for the book. Today, he can often be found
poring through documents at the Jackson County Historical Museum to learn more
about the early settlers of Jackson County and the Lakefield area.

While the book “Lakefield: 125 Years 1879-2004” informs readers about the
community’s humble beginnings and highlights events throughout its history,
Kroeger said there are a lot of stories yet to be told about Lakefield.

He hopes to continue his research and later write and perhaps publish a more
in-depth book on the community’s roots.

“It’s kind of a lifelong thing. Whenever I’ve got the time to dig into the local
history, I will,” Kroeger said.

His present offering includes 66 pages, with both color and black-and-white
photographs of Lakefield scenes throughout the past 125 years. The story begins
with national and state events and moves into the founding of Lakefield.
Historical events are written in chronological order.

While researching the community, Kroeger discovered Census information that
showed population growth from 20 residents at the time Lakefield was
incorporated to a high of 1,886 residents by the 1980 Census. Today, about 1,720
people call Lakefield home.

Kroeger’s book includes histories on the schools, listings of present and past
businesses, and information about farm populations, farm size and farm
technologies that have affected the rural community. He also touches on some of
the interesting facts about the town, from the wildfires that threatened local
homes and businesses in the early years to the outdoor bandshell that hosted
concerts every week during the summer for more than 50 years.

Included in the book are excerpts from the Lakefield Standard on important
events in the town’s history. The Standard is the oldest, longest-running
business in the community, publishing a weekly paper for the past 119 years.

History in the making

While Lakefield was incorporated in 1879, the land was inhabited long before
then, with French and English traders exploring the territory in the 17th and
18th centuries. By 1869, however, the first settlers came to Heron Lake Township
to break up the soil and stake their futures on the land.

Anders R. Kilen, a sodbuster who helped establish many farms in southern
Minnesota, is credited with Lakefield’s founding. He worked in the area during
the early 1870s to help farms get established, but when the grasshopper plagues
of the mid-1870s struck, he moved east.

“It was really hard times when the grasshoppers hit,” Kroeger said.

Throughout its history, Lakefield has had many hard times, but it’s also enjoyed
prosperity. Kroeger said the community is poised for future growth and
development, thanks to leaders willing and working to promote the town.

“Lakefield has always been progressive,” said Kroeger. “The EDA and Council are
behind a lot of projects.”

Kozy Heat is the community’s largest employer and, although many retail
businesses have closed in the last couple of decades, Kroeger said they have a
good service industry base.

Kroeger’s book, published by the Lakefield Standard, is available for purchase
at the newspaper office and will be sold during Saturday’s celebration at their
tent. Copies can also be ordered by mail. Contact the Lakefield Standard for
prices and shipping information.

My grandfather's death certificate states Oct 3, 1929 to Feb 4, 1930. My mother
felt that he was
there longer or was there, left and then went back.

Also, the death certificate says he was buried at the Catholic Cemetery in
Worthington, however, I
received a note from a Robert Harens and he could not find Henry Fonteyn in St

know he was buried in Worthington, 2 of my uncles attended the funeral.

Do you know where the records for the sanitarium are located?

Peg -
I have looked for the sanitarium records for a number of years. The state
historical society does not have them. The county does not have them. I have
been told by various people that the records were; destroyed, retained by
the physicians who worked there, stored at the county, stored at the state
historical society, stored at the state health board, etc. So no I don't
have any idea were they are located.

I checked our master index and don't find any listing for Henry Fonteyn. We
have "walked" all the cemeteries in Nobles County and wrote down all the
grave stone information, this info. is in our master index.

Do you have an obituary for Henry?

there and also some family researchers that can post information
that can help other researchers so we can get the site up and
running!

Thanks for you time!

I don't have a Caroline Adelia Fiske who died 2/14/1897, what I do have is a
Caroline Adelia Forbes, wife of Azon Forbes, Daughter of David H * Almira B
Fiske, born Calema, Ill 04/24/1843 died, Worthington, MN 3/19/1903 - also
info on the husband and a son Clarence all buried in Worthington Cemetery -
B-2.

Let me know if this is NOT the same Caroline you are looking for. I will
try to search further. On a chance I looked for all Carolines when I didn't
find Fiske, and when I opened the book I found her maiden name was Fiske and
married name was Forbes. Hope this helps.

Greg -
This is the biography we have on John.

JOHN HANSBERGER
John Hansberger was born in Berks county, Pennsylvanian, December 18, 1838,
and his parents, Joel Hansberger and wife, were natives of that same county,
the former born in 1808 and the latter in 1812. When John was a boy his
parents left their old home in Pennsylvania and sought a location in Ohio,
stopping first in Pickaway county, subsequently going to Fairfield county
and finally to Sandusky county. John accompanied his parents on their
several moves and remained in Ohio until 1872, when he came out to Minnesota
and took a homestead claim of one hundred and sixty acres of land in section
20, of Lorain township.

Mr. Hansberger was married in November, 1867, to Miss Hannah Catherine
Myers, in Fairfield county, Ohio, and to them were born six children namely:
William L., who was married in 1894 to Miss Carrie Payne; Lizzie H., who in
February, 1894, became the wife of Edward Wilson; Ella C., Clyde and
James.A.

Both of Mrs. Hansberger parents were born in Bucks county, Pennsylvania, her
father in 1804 and her mother in 1808, and the latter was reared a Quaker.
Both died in Fairfield county, Ohio, he in March, 1890, and she in 1868.

The Hansberger family was well represented in the Union army during the
civil war, the father and two sons, ,John and Joel, being in the ranks. The
father enlisted in the One Hundred and Twenty-sixth Ohio Infantry, and died
in Washington, District of Columbia, while in the service. The sons served
side by side throughout nearly the whole war. They enlisted September 7,
1861, in Company K, Seventeenth Ohio Volunteer Infantry; were discharged
December 25, 1863, at the expiration of their term, and immediately
reenlisted in the same company and regiment, in which they served until the
war was over, their final discharge being dated at Louisville, Kentucky,
July 16, 1865. Among the engagements in which they took part, we note the
following: Mills Springs, Corinth, Stone River, Chickamauga, Resaca, Kenesaw
mountain, Atlanta, Jonesboro, Savannah, Goldsboro, and Raleigh.

John Hansberger died March 3rd, 1922, and is buried in Worthington.
