Elizabeth,
when I think of "dead gurus" the famous quote from Ram Das comes to
mind: "Dead gurus don't kick ass." Apparently he hadn't yet read
Nisargadatta Maharaj, or looked at it from the point of your post.

PS. I wonder whether Ram Das would say the same thing now? I don't
mean in the sense that you're talking about, but rather, after all
these years, what his experience of Neem Karoli Baba is, whether he
thinks NKB can or can't kick ass.
