Description

The question of Nietzsche and Philosophy had become

unavoidable over the second half of the 20th century. Now,

with the withering away of Marxism over a decade ago one

could be forgiven thinking that Nietzsche would be the only

philosopher left standing. That nihilism had won and that

it would be just a matter of time until we were all sucked

into its vortex.

But now, with even Post-Modernism (the Nietchean left)

speaking of ethics and friendship we need to wonder if

chaos itself is dead. Is Nietzsche an irresponsible

nihilist or a genuine philosopher? Is he merely a nihilist,

an antichrist, or is their something else in his teaching?

Neither prophet nor antichrist, this board will

explore the possibility that he was a philosopher. This is

not a board for Ubermenchen and AntiChrists - they have

many boards. Anti-christians, along with the religious, of

course, are welcome.

We are currently reading Beyond Good and Evil section

by section. Future readings will be of either The Genealogy

of Morals or the Twilight of the Idols.

Rudeness, flaming, and general idiocy will get you

kicked out of the group.

Re: Nietzsche - 'On the Use and Abuse of History for Life'
In the essay Nietzsche takes a different view. He says that too much historiology is detrimental to Life. He opines that when we act we can only do so

I havn't read the essay. But i distinctly remember Nietzsche stressing the point that moralists and psychologists lack the "historical" sense. This is indeed

I agree with N. I think the relation between the present and the past and the future is illisory and ruins are stones at best. Every moment are free form every
