NieblingLaceKnitters is a group of knitters with the enthusiasm, stamina, skill, and/or blind determination to attack the designs of Herbert Niebling. Many of his patterns present unique technical challenges that aren't found in other lace designs and the instructions are often scanty at best. Do you really "rest" on an uncharted resting row? What kind of surprises are you going to get when you up-gauge a pattern originally written for Nr.100 thread on 1.5mm needles? But the results are *always* worth the effort, they are some of the most intricate, complex lace pieces ever designed!
Finding Niebling patterns used to be very difficult, but Buch Verlag Fur Die Frau has been reprinting a couple dozen patterns a year, you can find descriptions of the folios in current print at their website (see link on the RH bar). There are also quite a few US stocklist retailers that sell these folios and the US distributor did a lot of work to see that they came back into print. I hope everyone will support them in their reprint efforts so that everyone gets to see more of this lovely stuff in the future!
Please understand that this is not a general lace knitting group. We hope you'll help us keep the group focused on Niebling lace (and/or other lace work that's in a similar genre) by avoiding off-topic posts.
Our homepage pic: Ulla's exquisite Dagmar -- all 312 rounds of it -- and it's in current print! You can find it in "Kunststrick-Decken, entworfen von Herbert Niebling" (ISBN 978-3-89789-283-3), which is a publisher's reprint of Beyer Band 454.
