Frank.. I got to wonder if this is a seasonal thing.. For a few day's now I have
heard a simular thing on 146.9400. It can be heard up to 15 kc's away. It lasts
for only a few minutes. But it is @ S--60 only my scale... Would you happen to
have time to record an audio file.. so the group can hear it.. I live in
Jaffrey... The funny thing is if you would have said this a day ago. I was in
Nashua yesterday.

170.0000mhz and also sounds like its pulsing as well, you can hear a tick,

Many years ago there was a rogue signal like that in central Nassau County,
NY, It not only was on 170 point something but also wiped out part of two
meters. It was traced to a box on a utility pole with a rubber duckie on it
and part of the lighting company operation. It took a call to the local
FCC office to get them to fix the problem. Calls to LILCO were ignored.

To all,

Source found, its a test signal being used in the Nashua / Hudson area. The
splash over I was getting was because I was like several hundred feet from the
antenna and drowning out (overloading) most, not all, of channels I listen too
on my radios in the truck in that freq range.

You may still hear it now and then, but work is being done to reduce any
nearby interference it may be causing, if it even is, but so far its not from
any users outside the immediate area..

     Thanks everyone..

Hi,

Spit Brook Road at the former Sanders.. I was out with the wife for supper and
it was there. After dinner, it was gone, clear...just turned on the house radios
and it was back. Went back out to the truck, its there again. Whatever it was
shut down around 6pm, then restarted, its on now at 7:30p and I am in Tyngsboro
at the house and its full signal...anyone else getting it? I'm sure everyone is
out there that can get these frequencies. .

Thanks Jeff, let me know if your getting it.

I think your talking about the carrier that's been on three frequencies for the
last couple of weeks simultanously.  In looking at it on the spectrum analyzer
the frequencies were 170.125  I think (I'm not home right now) 167, 2375, and
167.4375.  All three are typically federal frequencies and were being used
extensively over the last 3-5 months.

I'm not sure it's interference or intentional but it's strong (about -60 DBm) in
Derry.  The waveforms, when looking at them with the SA Scope function are
always the same which indicate it's some type of RF Transmit device.

I'll check it out again when I get home and provide more info.

Rerouted to this posting,

     Hi Joe,

It came back on around or about 7:00pm and while I was working in the shack
here, around 8:30 it stopped and has been off since. So anyone trying to look
and hear it, it was gone after 8:30. Check during the daytime hours and late in
the day...

Will be monitoring during the day when I can..

Anyways, I working in Nashua and the radios in use there are getting a
horrible interference from something. Its effecting the mid 150mhz up to and
including the railroad freqs at 161mhz and even the NWS weather freqs at
162mhz. Its a buzzing sound and drowns out all low powered HT's..

I need to know if anyone over the border is getting it too. My friend
and I just found a solid freq with the buzzing and its splashing pretty
wide...

The freq is 170.050 +/- .05 and I live in Mass, 3 miles from my building

we all can nal it down...

I curious if you ever get around to the east side of Nashua, around East Hollis
Street and Allds. If you do, I'm curious how strong the signal is in that
neighborhood.

There is a ham who lives in that neighborhood who has been known to throw out
noise in the various services, and he has the radios and noise generators to do
it. Even a $10,000 fine several years ago only slowed him down for about a year.
He's been heard slamming both Skywarn/Amateur radio activity (on a 2 meter
simplex frequency) as boys playing weatherman, and was heavily moaning about
the railroad when they had the derailment a couple of weeks ago. He has enough
of a distrubed mentality to cause mayhem in that portion of the band.

On the other hand, I heard it mentioned that the power substation serving the
Pheasant Lane Mall south Nashua area, has been known to be an RF hellhole on
occasion.

This is a new posting from one I started off of another one that I
shouldn't have done.

The guys at my work are on HT's for working around the buildings where I
work. I listen to them all the time and also to the railroads in our area
here in Northern Mass and Southern NH, also skywarn spotter so I have
weather radios as well.

There is a very strong signal that myself and another ham radio operator
came across and is the same buzzing sound coming across the 153mhz range and
is also drowning out the RR and NWS freq's too. Its so strong that I cannot
even receive the Pack transmitter on 162.525mhz and barely understand the RR
guys on the tracks.

The frequency that was on most of the day, then stopped at ~6pm tonight
and now back on as of the time of this email, @7:30pm is 170.0100mhz.

When it does clear, I get all the NWS sites again and all radio channels
I listen too are back and in the clear..

I live 3 miles south of Nashua in Tyngsboro and full quieting of it here
and 100% solid, strong in Nashua as well..

Need to know if and who else is picking up this same signal. Its so
strong and bad that I believe that the NWS radios won't trigger with the
interference that its causing. Also, this has been going on for about a week
or two. Just found the frequency during a band search and locked on..

     Thanks

Hi Frank

1) Can you be more specific about you location, and times of day this is
happening. We have quite a few members from Nashua who might be able to track
this down.

2) Please create a new post with a new subject, do not reply to an unrelated

If you want a new scanner for low bucks, you'll sacrafice features:

From Uniden

BC340CRS will run you about $95 - No 800 MHz therefore no Manchester

BC350C will run you about $130 - Has 800 MHz but no trunking, you can hear
Manchester, but can't track the talk group, making listening a bit tedious

BCT8 will run you about $200 - This has trunking capability on 800 MHz, so you
can listen to Manchester, if you are in or very near Manchester, no problem

None of the above scanners have digital (APCO P25) capabilities. If police is
not your thing, these scanners are worth your consideration. Some fire
depeartments are using P25 occasionally, but not much.

I would DEFINITELY recommend a digital capable scanner for this area. So many
things are P25, trunked or conventional. NHSP, several counties, Nashua PD, and
several local communities.

I'm personally not a big eBay fan (too many shady characters for my taste), but
I CAN recommend both RadioReference.com and ScanNewEngland.net -- both of these
sites have For Sale / Want To Buy areas where some good deals can be found. On
ScanNewEngland there aren't as many ads, but you have the added peace of mind of
dealing with a local person.

Note that over the past few months Uniden introduced an upgrade to their
top-of-the-line scanners. The OLD models were the 996t (mobile/desk) and 396t
(handheld), the NEW models are the 996xt and 396xt. The older models are very
good (I have a 396t and love it). There have been a number of folks who are
selling the older models to buy the newer ones, and you can often find a decent
deal.

The GRE line of scanners is also excellent... Check out the PSR-500 (handheld)
and the PSR-600 (mobile/desk). Slightly more sensitive than the Uniden
scanners, but also slightly less selective. There's a PSR-600 for sale on
ScanNewEngland right now for $324, which is an excellent price (I have no
relation to the web site or the seller).

Hope that helps,

Peter

I defintely would check out E-Bay for good deals. Most of the police departments
in NH operate in digital which would require a digital capable scanner. This
does include the folks at the state police.

My scanner brand of choice is Uniden. I am not sure on the Radio Shack models as
I mainly have Unidens. Others could share their thoughts on the RS models.

Hopes this helps somewhat.

Budget is tight?  I saw a Uniden 785D on here I think about 1-2 weeks ago
without the digital card for $150.00.  I should have grabbed it.  That would
be a good starter but only for non APCO -25 digital (Manchester Trunk would work
with it).  Most other towns are APCO as well as NHSP .

I don't think there's any meetings but I'm not sure.  Try ebay for a trunking
800 MHz radio/scanner.

Hello, my name is Tom and i just joined your group, thank you. I guess a little
about myself: I am 41 yrs old, live in manchester and have most of my life. I
used to listen when i was younger but got busy with life etc. I guess my first
step is to purchase a scanner but would need some assistance with all the new
technology that has arrived since i was into it.Budget is tight so maybe a used
scanner to start. Do you guys have meetings?

Check this link showing 146.490 as simplex frequency in greater Nashua area.
Investigation shows this info for 146.490 is updated as of 2002. So much for the
exclusive claim to the 146.490 frequency by an operator in East Nashua.

I figured it was only a matter of time before I started to hear voice traffic on
144.990 MHZ (out of the greater Nashua/Hudson area). This I believe is on of the
APRS data freqs, not to be used for voice.

These guys are running with a 20 year old channel plan.

Is anyone else hearing a parallel or linked transmitter on 146.820 with CTCSS of
88.5 with the same traffic as 147.105 Hudson NH. Last evening I heard a yada
yada yada linked in announcement on 147.105. Afterwards I was picking up same
traffic on both 146.820 and 147.105 from my base in Londonderry.

The 147.105 signal is absolutely full scale while the 146.820 signal is about an
S-3, and seems to splash over to 146.835 and to a much lesser extennt 146.850
and 146.805.
