Forum for enlightened Sephardic Judaism, mainly in its Spanish and Portuguese variety. We believe in the continuation and development of the Sefardi tradition with its minhag and its understanding of Halakha.
Topics include Sephardi liturgy, religious music, cantillation (ta'amim), Hebrew language (including trad. Sefaradi pronunciation), holiday observances, gender issues (including women's right to wear tallet and tefillin; the various views on women and minyan, Torah reading, etc.), kashrut, etc....
This is primarily a forum for Jewish religion, philosophy and observance in the spirit of the Rambam (Maimonides), the Rashba, and the other Rishonim Sefaradim, and for the Jewish communities that have kept this primary focus - mainly the Spanish and Portuguese Sefaradim and the Temani Baladim.
Denomination?
Traditional, egalitarian, Orthodox, Conservative, Reconstructionist, Reform, post-denominational, etc., Jews are welcome, but please respect that our virtual Esnoga is not a forum for bashing other Jews or non-Jews.
We hope to maintain
good discussions in a friendly and accepting spirit. (Hateful language and missionarising will of course not be accepted.)
