Bush dispatched several Cabinet officials to the region to help assess the

Michael Chertoff, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, Joint Chiefs of
Staff Chairman Gen. Richard B. Myers and Secretary of State Condoleezza
Rice.

Speaking of Condoleezza Rice, have you heard about her very very recent

NEW YORK All day Thursday, from the New York Post to several popular
blogs, Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice came under attack and ridicule
for having fun in Manhattan while New Orleans sank and exploded in
violence. By nightfall, she had cut short her vacation and returned to her
post in Washington.
The Post started it with an early morning Page Six item about Rice playing
tennis with Monica Seles at a court near New York's Grand Central. Then
Drudge revealed that she had attended a Broadway play -- "Spamalot," no
less -- the night before.
Wonkette and Gawker got in on the action, with the latter revealing that
she had just been spotted shopping for expensive shoes at a chic New York
City boutique

yesterday she was seen shopping in a luxury shoe store on Fifth Avenue.
"Just moments ago at the Ferragamo on 5th Avenue, Condoleeza Rice was seen
spending several thousands of dollars on some nice, new shoes (weve
confirmed this, so her new heels will surely get coverage from the WaPos
Robin Givhan). A fellow shopper, unable to fathom the absurdity of Rices
timing, went up to the Secretary and reportedly shouted, How dare you shop
for shoes while thousands are dying and homeless! Never one to have her
fashion choices questioned, Rice had security PHYSICALLY REMOVE the
woman."

This is more than just a cheap shot at Condi. What in the blazes is this
woman doing at a Broadway show in the middle of a national emergency? This
is akin to going to a Broadway show in the middle of September 11. Dont we
expect the Secretary of State to work past 5pm on a day an entire American
city is being wiped off the face of the planet? And shouldnt she be doing
something else today than shopping at filthy rich stores on 5th Avenue?
Could she be - oh, I dont know - working with foreign leaders, like the
Mexicans, to see what immediate assistance they can offer to the neighbor?
New Orleans is ceasing to exist. What in Gods name is Bush doing letting
his secretary of state go on vacation in the middle of this?
Message: "I dont care."

Big Story opened tonight with a Fox News Alert heralding a statement from
Condoleeza Rice who returned to DC today after a shopping trip to NYC.
Rice appeared shaken and nobody would have guessed that she had been
indulging herself in New York instead of responding to International
offers of support.

After Rice finished her business as usual non-statement, she paused and
said "On a personal note.." and then went on to share that her family came
from Alabama and Mississippi. She appeared emotionally affected for almost
a split second while expressing her sorrow.
When those tough questions started coming, it was steel toed Condi who
answered. Asked why Russia's offer had been turned down, she curtly
replied that it was untrue making up some lame excuse. Then she was asked
if FEMA was correct saying that 60 Countries had offered aid and none had
been accepted. Rice looked visibly shaken while she was forced to spin an
answer while standing there. Of course, she was probably standing in her
new Ferragamo shoes and that made all the difference.

New Orleans' "Have-mores" Struggling on Arizona's Golf Courses

The Bush administration is working hard this weekend to highlight the
distress Hurricane Katrina has caused its core supporters, the Have-mores.
At an unprecedented press conference on Friday, Bush outlined many of the
problems his people, those he called "the forgotten ones," are facing.
"We've all seen the animal instincts of those who chose to stay in New
Orleans," said Bush, "But few have heard of the trouble that those who
took the responsible action of filling up their SUV's with $70 of gas and
evacuating to golf resorts in Arizona have been having.
"In fact, I just heard from Karl Rove's nephew today and he - he wasn't
able to bring his own golf clubs with him when he left his New Orleans
vacation home. His friends loaned him some, but he's got a long torso and
needs extra length clubs. He tells me his handicap may never be the same.
That's a story of devastation that's not being told."

Breaking: Condi Rice Spends Salary on Shoes

According to Drudge, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has recently
enjoyed a little Broadway entertainment.
And Page Six reports that shes also working on her backhand with Monica
Seles.
So the Gulf Coast has gone all Mad Max, women are being raped in the
Superdome, and Rice is enjoying a brief vacation in New York. We wish we
were surprised.
What does surprise us: Just moments ago at the Ferragamo on 5th Avenue,
Condoleeza Rice was seen spending several thousands of dollars on some
nice, new shoes (weve confirmed this, so her new heels will surely get
coverage from the WaPos Robin Givhan).

Clearly the Bush Administration is fully pumped up about handling the
Hurricane Katrina Crisis in a size seven Ferragamo with a three inch heel.
