TOURISM: PERIODICALS:

Through the kindness of the Editor in Chief of the European Journal of
Tourism Research, Stanislav Ivanov, after we had interacted via email, I

A serious and concern laden laboratory of live education is beginning to
unfold for those in event tourism and sport tourism with the complex
developments in the international diplomatic realm and with relations
between China and Tibet that are being acted out on a global scale, all
in regard to security and participation decisions in the Summer Olympics
to be held in China. From the security measures in San Francisco to the
decisions being made in Europe regarding attendance at the opening
ceremonies of the Olympics, there is much happening in this arena daily.

On Net-Gold there has been some coverage of news of these developments and
background posts from times before to be found with this URL:

Final Topics

I and quite a few others have been deeply concerned regarding events at
the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. While these matters
should concern all academicians and all citizens concerned about
censorship, these events will be of substantial interest and concern to
those involved with wellness tourism, health tourism and medical tourism
in particular. While this story has extensive coverage in Net-Gold, it
should be noted here that this matter concerns the discovery by a West
Coast librarian that at the database POPLINE, funded by the federal
government, the decision was made to make the subject heading abortion a
stop word, with the effect that this term could not be searched according
to the instructions provided to users for searching in this database.
For those interested in learning more, start with the link below and
follow the links in the message cited to the prior posts in regard to this
topic.

A Couple of New Articles Regarding POPLINE Censorship of Abortion
as a Subject Heading: Some Implications to Consider

I do promise those interested that this issue and the stir that it created
is anything but boring. If one wonders about possible applications of
this kind of censorship to tourism, do I not remember at the very outset
of the SARS crisis there were some instances of suppression of information
regarding the occurances of the SARS disease in countries seeking tourist
visits where there were SARS cases???
