Web 2.0
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
<
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_2>
"Web 2.0 is a trend in World Wide Web technology, and web design, a second
generation of web-based communities and hosted services such as
social-networking sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies, which aim to
facilitate creativity, collaboration, and sharing among users. The term
became notable after the first O'Reilly Media Web 2.0 conference in
2004.[2][3] Although the term suggests a new version of the World Wide
Web, it does not refer to an update to any technical specifications, but
to changes in the ways software developers and end-users use webs.
According to Tim O'Reilly:
"Web 2.0 is the business revolution in the computer industry caused by the
move to the Internet as platform, and an attempt to understand the rules
for success on that new platform." [4]
Some technology experts, notably Tim Berners-Lee, have questioned whether
one can use the term in a meaningful way, since many of the technology
components of "Web 2.0" have existed since the early days of the
Web.[5][6]"

An association of people drawn together by family, work or hobby. The term
was first coined by professor J. A. Barnes in the 1950s, who defined the
size of a social network as a group of about 100 to 150 people. On the
Web, social networking sites have millions of members (see social
networking site).

"A Web site that provides a virtual community for people interested in a
particular subject or just to "hang out" together. Members create their
own online "profile" with biographical data, pictures, likes, dislikes and
any other information they choose to post. They communicate with each
other by voice, chat, instant message, videoconference and blogs, and the
service typically provides a way for members to contact friends of other
members."
