On a discussion group managers list, of all places, there has been an
extensive discussion of copyright law and violations, particularly on the
internet, and after reading all of these posts, I thought it would be
interesting to throw the book at them so to speak with a search engine
results type of working bibliography to give those interested some light
reading on the topic along with expectable off topic false drops in search
engine results. Above my header, a few specific sources not in that post,
to provide a bit of introduction to this topic.

Embroidery Software Protection Coalition v. Ebert & Weaver
EFF successfully blocked a brazen attempt to unmask the identities of
anonymous members of an online discussion group for embroidery fans. The
online group was created to share information about a long-running
campaign to threaten purchasers of embroidery designs and software with
copyright infringement lawsuits. The Embroidery Software Protection
Coalition (ESPC), a purported coalition of embroidery pattern design
companies, is behind the heavy-handed campaign. ESPC filed defamation
claims against some members of the group and then issued a subpoena for
detailed personal information about every single person who joined the
discussion group--whether or not they had ever posted a single message.

I was able to steer the readers on that list interested in this topic to
just a few more sources on this topic through the links I provided.

Since I am home, I can send this without violating any work rules. <g>
Actually, I am a reference librarian, so sharing information on lists is
expected of me rather than a violation of my job regimen.
These will lead to a bit of light reading about embroidery and copyright
violation with the usual false drops one finds in search results.

And this source resurected in one of my posts yesterday after years of neglect
due to their intermediate years of being a fee based service which is no longer
the case.

One does have to wonder about an embroidery underground and if so wonder if the
principle of what one sews is what one reaps would apply to them.
Just a weak attempt to keep us in stitches about this topic. <g>

Does making folks pay for the use of a quilt design constitute a cover
charge? Well, I guess this sews up yet another Net-Gold post.
