This group is for those parents and prospective parents interested in a diaperless lifestyle for their baby. Natural Infant Hygiene, also known as Infant Potty Training and Elimination Communication (EC) is the practice of tuning into and responding to your baby's elimination cues in a timely and compassionate way. It is the primary way of tending to the elimination needs of infants in many (if not most) non-western cultures.
No animal by nature will soil its own nest. Forcing an adult to sit in his own mess is considered inhumane. Why should the case be any different for a baby? Yet many parents and caretakers don't think twice about allowing a baby to soil himself, believing, mistakenly, that a baby has no control over his ability to eliminate. Natural Infant Hygiene acknowledges the ability of a baby to signal his need to go, and is about tuning into and responding to those signals appropriately and compassionately. It takes attachment parenting a step further by incorporating the care of a baby's elimination needs into an attachment parenting lifestyle.
Many western parents find the notion of Natural Infant Hygiene attractive for various reasons: its enviromental benefits, its cleanliness, or because it just feels right. Yet because we live in a diaper-oriented culture, how to go about it seems baffling, and parents engaged in Natural Infant Hygiene have many questions and need support and ideas from others engaged in the same practice. This group seeks to address those needs.
This group is for parents who want to exchange ideas, ask questions and provide support with other parents practicing Natural Infant Hygiene. Both those new to the concept and veterans of it are most welcome. The only rule is to stick to the topic of Natural Infant Hygiene, and to be respectful of one another.
