Osage Nation to hold National Indian Taco Championship
Published: May 13, 2009
PAWHUSKA — The Osage Nation will hold the fifth annual National Indian Taco
Championship on Saturday. The festivities are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
downtown. Registration for competitors is closed, but come out and cheer
them as they vie for supremacy for both the classic Indian taco and a
dessert version.
First prize is $1,500, second is $1,000 and third $500. Traditional Indian
tacos must include fry bread, meat (beef, buffalo, beefalo, lamb, venison
or pork); lettuce, tomato, Cheddar cheese and sour cream. The only
requirement for the dessert class is fry bread.
Visitors can pay $5 for the chance to help judge. The event also will
include concessions, music and entertainment. A powwow will follow.
