Sami Meets Choctaw at Inari Indigenous Film Fest

The Indigenous Peoples' Film Festival in Finnish Lapland is celebrating its
10th anniversary with a special focus on Native American movies.

In its anniversary year, the Skábmagovat festival has expanded to a six-day
event with a new venue and office in one of Finland's northernmost towns.

The festival, which began on Wednesday with events for children and youth,
concludes on Monday evening. The opening ceremony is on Thursday evening at
the outdoor Northern Lights Theatre, which is built of snow.

Festival director Sari Valkonen expects record attendance this year. Among
the guests of honour is the event's official patron, Dr Pentti Arajärvi,
husband of President Tarja Halonen.

Others include US director Ian Skorodin, a member of the Choctaw tribe, who
will present his films Crazy Ind'n and Tushka.
