Happy New Year! As of this moment, there is no Chinese New Year dinner this
year for various reasons. First of all, there wasn't any real clamor for
it. Secondly, everyone is trying to save money. Thirdly, I am trying to
reduce the amount of salty foods that I eat. However, if anyone would like to
put
together a Chinese New Year Dinner in February, please contact me at

This weekend, the Vegetarian Social Network of Westchester visited the
new Jolo's Kitchen in New Rochelle. This small restaurant with both
sit-down and take-out service has many delicious hot foods,
sandwiches, and juices. The "ribs" were so good I ended up taking
home a meal-and-a-half's worth of them. They also make vegan versions
of several different Jamaican patties. The restaurant is walking
distance from the Metro-North New Haven Line's New Rochelle train station.

Join NYC Vegetarians for a trip to Rye Playland on Saturday, August
23, led by Stacey Harris. Swim in Long Island Sound ($3) and visit
the free admission amusement park. Non-swimmers may consider playing
miniature golf, instead. Points (formerly tickets) are $1 each or $35
for a six-hour, unlimited ride band. Most rides are 3-4 points, and
the park is really too small to ride for 6 hours. Extra free rides
come with 20, 30 or 50 point purchases.
Take the 11:10 a.m. Metro-North New Haven Line train from Grand
Central Station to Rye. When you leave the train, immediately leave
the platform and board the Westchester Bee-Line Bus #75. Do not wait
and look for the leader, as the bus leaves at noon. She will wait
with a sign at Playland as soon as she gets off the bus.
Bring lunch, as vegetarian choices are limited and vegan options are
dubious at best. Water can be purchased. We will eat on arrival.
Bring a towel to sit on, as table availability is not guaranteed.
Lockers are available to rent--bring quarters.
Metro-North round-trip ticket costs $13.50.
Bee-Line buses are $2.00 each way, and accept Metrocard.
Rain cancels.
Questions may be e-mailed to Stacey at madkitty_sh@..., or you
may call 914-939-1815 before 10:00 p.m. E-mail is strongly preferred.
Please do not call or e-mail the day of the trip.
