Description
This is a forum for the public announcement and discussion of rare bird sightings in Nova Scotia. All are welcome to join this group, but please provide your name and location when applying to join, as well as the reason you wish to participate.
Postings should be restricted to the reporting of rare bird sightings in Nova Scotia, as well as sighting updates. Sightings should fall into one of the following categories:
A) Species new to the Nova Scotia list;
B) Species occurring out-of-season (record-early or late-departing migrants);
C) Exceptional numbers of any species; and
D) The NS-RBA List of Reportable Species, which may be viewed at:
http://www3.ns.sympatico.ca/maybank/other/NS-RBA.htm
Any sightings reported should mention the name of the initial observer(s), the date, the time, and specific directions if not a well-known location. The name and e-mail of the person making the posting should also appear within the body of the message.

Common Redpolls
Hi All, A couple of Common Redpolls joined the regular flock of American Goldfinch at my feeders yesterday. It's the first redpolls I've seen here this winter.

Meadowlark, Conrads Beach
 The Meadowlark is still present at Conrads beach in the grass behind the west side of the beach. I'm assuming it's the same Meadowlark from December. Â

FWD: Varied Thrush in Queens County
13 February I have a Varied Thrush in my back yard!! I thought it might be so called in a friend with birding binoculars and a camera. It is a lovely male.

Common Gallinule/Am. Coot: RB Pond: YES
Just a quick update to say that both the Common Gallinule & the Am. Coot made it through the torrential rains & then freezing rain and frigid conditions this
