Description
This is the public discussion group of New Mexico Orienteers (NMO). You are welcome to join it.
New Mexico Orienteers (NMO) is a sport orienteering club founded in Los Alamos, New Mexico, in 2003. Orienteering is the sport of navigation a cross-country course by map, with the occasional aid of a compass. To facilitate training, especially training of children, NMO club members do original cartography, making very detailed and accurate maps at scales as large as 1:15000 to 1:4000. As of 2010, NMO has produced IOF standard orienteering maps of several magnificent locations: in the canyons around Los Alamos, in the supervolcano Valles Caldera National Preserve, in Albuquerque at the foot of towering Sandia Crest, and near Albuquerque in the Cibola National Forest. Additional maps are in development in the Jemez Mountains, the Manzano Mountains, and Los Lunas. As we add new maps to our repertoire, we also gradually add more orienteering meets to our schedule of events.
We invite you to try orienteering with us, and if you like it then we invite you to also join our club. Club member or not, your are also welcome to subscribe to our free e-mail newsletter. The subscription service, our event schedule, and much more is on our website, New Mexico Orienteers.
