The Event:
At the request of the Grand Traverse County Emergency Coordinators Office, the
Amateur
Radio Operators in this area have been invited to participate in the "Region 7
FS SAR Training
& Exercise". This event will simulate a tornado touch down in Grand Traverse
County which has
eliminated phone, electricity, cell phone and 911 services. It will also
simulate an unknown quantity
of Boy Scouts who are presumed lost and injured during the tornado.

What we are needed for:
All radio traffic is to be handled by Amateur Radio Operators. This will include
passing of traffic
for Search & Rescue (SAR), Police, Fire and EMS at the scene.

The Place, Date and Times:
This event will take place at the Scenic Trails—Camp Greilick Boy Scout Camp.
The Amateur
Radio portion of this event will be mostly on Saturday May 2nd, 2009. There may
be some preliminary
setup involved the day prior also. The event will begin at approximately 11:00
am EDT
and run until 5:00 pm EDT of the same day.

What you need to bring:
Your personal ID including your RACES Photo ID, an HT (preferably dual-band
2m/70cm), instructions
for your HT, adequate clothing (jacket, rain poncho), hiking shoes, spare
batteries,
water bottle, snacks, first aid kit, pocket sized note pad & pens, fanny pack or
back pack, flash
light, maps, compass and any other items you would normally pack for hiking in
an unknown
place. Also, it wouldn't hurt to make sure you include your sense of humor and
your willingness
to help out the "victims" who need us.

(for more information on the exercise please contact)
