Horror night leaves eight dead on nation's roads

EIGHT people have been killed on Australian roads
in less than 24 hours.
Four people have died on Queensland roads. A 24-year-old
man and two children were killed when their car left the road and hit a tree
near the town of Jandowae, north of Dalby, about 10pm (AEST) on Friday.
And a man was killed when his car hit a tree at Dalveen,
north of Stanthorpe, near the NSW border early on Saturday morning.
Three people died on Victoria's roads overnight in separate
accidents.
One man died at Shepherds Flat, in central Victoria, just
before 1am (AEDT) on Saturday.
A truck driver died less than an hour later, when his
B-double veered across the Hume Highway near Melbourne and crashed into a tree.
Both men were believed to be in their 50s.
About 1.30am (AEDT) on Saturday, a young man lying on the
Warburton Highway in Wandin North was hit and killed by a car.
And in Western Australia, a driver died in a car crash on
the Mitchell Freeway at Joondalup, north of Perth.
Police say the accident happened on Friday about 5.55pm
(WST) when a white Holden Commodore utility travelling north crossed the
grassed median strip and collided with a silver Toyota Hilux utility travelling
south.
