We, the NJ Compact, pledge to simplify our lives by:
1. curbing purchases
2. resisting the effects of marketing and consumerism,
3. supporting each other in our common goal of reducing our impact on this earth.
Joining this egroup does not commit you to implementing all the ideals we discuss. The purpose is soley as a forum to help you set your own goals.
We will earnestly try not to buy new items. We will reduce our impact on the waste stream by choosing to borrow, barter, share ...or at least purchase used items - to the benefit of everyone in our community.
This is a perfect supplement for those who already use Freecycle, Craigslist, yard sales, and thrift stores; great spot for the do-it-yourselfers, too!
As we remove ourselves from the unnecessary consumerism of our society, compacters can embrace the freedom and comfort that comes from living more simply.
This forum is intended to be a resource for like-minded NJ residents (or anyone, really) to brainstorm, support, offer advice, and share triumphs as we tread the road less traveled - where we strive to leave a smaller footprint on this earth and build a community of caring, compassionate people.
The NJ Compact is loosely based on the original Compact formed in the Bay Area of California.
