After looking at our certified portfolios, I did not reference my documents, just talked out my accomplishments and impact on students and placed them behind that accomplishment.  Every accomplishment has a separate cover sheet.  Mailed box today.  ya.........

Hi all,

I have a question - In the entry 4 accomplishments, do we write what the
documentation is in the written description/analysis for each
accomplishment. Would I say for instance that "I am submitting pictures of
so-and -so, verification from so-and -so and workshop certificates to show
evidence of meeting ______ accomplishment."

I just happened to see a sentence right before the questions about the
nature.. significance...impact on student learning that states " Each of
your written descriptions must connect the documentation you submit to the
accomplishment being described."

If we are to be explicit by actually putting this into the description,
would you weave it into the commentary or put it in a separate paragraph at
the end?

Thanks,

I have added a table that lists the activities that I have done with this unit along with the goals that were met through each activity.  Here is the question:  Does the information in the table need to be double spaced.  It looks so much better single spaced and of course takes up less space.  My box needs to be in the mail by Friday morning so if someone could get back to me quickly, I would sure appreciate it.  For those of you out there still working, my prayer is that you can think clearly during the time you have left and that you feel at peace.  Blessings,  Dee McKenna

My opinion is that tables are like graphics and do not need to be double spaced.  It is written text that is difficult to read when it is single spaced. You can always check with the National Board.

I do not know whether to cry or celebrate. It feels strange to be
done. All I can think about is everything I wish I could do over
and "should have", "could have". Well I taking a week off then
worring about the assessment. WOW this had been rougher than I ever
dream.

Thanks so much for finding out this detail. I am finishing up and really wanted some more space for that entry (have a few more things to say) I will change mine to a tabular format to give me a little more room!

You are wonderful,

Congratulations...It is such a relief to mail...Here is my dilemma, I have
my box packed and entries "finished." But, I had one of my entries read by
a NBPTS certified person and she seemed to think it needs "more, more,
more." More of what, I am not sure...I have had several teachers and
administrators read it along with the target questions and they think I
answered them. Another NBPTS certified person said I nailed it...Now, do I
mail, or revise again?... This is soooooo frustrating!

I can't wait for spring break to start next Thursday!!!

Do you have time to rewrite? Are you pleased with it?
The best advice I got in this process was that for all
of the input we get these are our portfolios and they
should reflect our standard of excellence. If you are
satisfied, Mail IT! After I mailed mine I spent a week
of what ifs, and I could have done better. But now it
is gone and the assessors will tell me if it was good
enough. Good luck.

Hi There, I used the cliff's notes for AP biology, chemistry, geology and
physics. They really helped me get an overview of those subjects and served
to bring back to memory lots of things tht I had not looked at in years...It
worked very well. Concentrate on the topics that are in the standards as
topics for concentration under content knowledge. Good luck!

Where do you get your hands on AP cliff notes?

I am retaking part of the assessment this year.  I had looked over current texts and the Project 2061 "Science for all Americans," but obviously that was not enough.

to bring back to memory lots of things tht I had not looked at in years...It

Where do you get your hands on AP cliff notes?

I am retaking part of the assessment this year. I had looked over
current texts and the Project 2061 "Science for all Americans," but
obviously th at was not enough.

Everyone who is taking the assessments...GO TO THE NBPTS web site and look
at the scoring guide!!! You will find a lot of requirements for each entry.
For example, the graph must be expressed as an equation...If you don't know
what they are looking for, you won't know what to write! It is a lot to
write in 30 minutes!

I mailed my box Monday.  It arrived in Texas Wednesday.  Since I mailed mine, I have been helping two Advanced Candidates with retakes in English.  I think this part has been the most rewarding.  I am really tired because I have been up to 2-3:00 am for the past several nights.  Even took off today and spent last night with a friend to help get her entries finished.  Whether we pass or not, we have persevered and survived.  My assessment is in June.  I'm so exhausted I cannot wait until the week after Easter is our spring break, but my grades are due this coming week.  I am really behind in all grading due to National Board.  It has been great chatting with many of you.  The best of luck to us all and God bless each one of you for your career as teachers.

Barnes and Nobles has Cliff notes for AP biology or other book stores with testing preparation type books.  I even suggest my AP Biology students buy one for review.  We use it often in class.  It is around $17.00.  Good luck.

I am retaking part of the assessment this year.  I had looked over current texts and the Project 2061 "Science for all Americans," but obviously that was not enough.

Good luck!

This may sound like a dumb question but here goes... I received a
larger page of bar code labels with my initials and also similar
barcode labels attached to a sheet that also had address return
labels. The vertical lines are not the same. Which ones do I use
where???

If the ID # is the same, I used the single sheet with the 60 for course code on the side of the box and the others you use are talked about on page 14 in the Instruction Book for packing the box.  You received labels when you first signed up for NB and then you received additional labels in the box.  The ID should be the same.  If the ID# is not the same, I would call National Board and ask.  I used the bar codes that were sent in the box, but the vertical lines and ID are the same.  Good luck.

Hi all,

I guess everyone is now getting ready to take the assessment center exercise, but I just had to tell you about my adventure. I don't think anyone except candidates and NBCTs can fully appreciate this, so here goes.

I finished my box last Friday and Fed-Exed on Monday. A colleague was working on her box too. I spent that whole weekend (Sat 5pm to 4am; Sun 6pm to 1 am) helping her clean-up and finish her entries. I packed her box on Sunday while she continued to work on Entry 1 (she had completed 2-4). She was planning to Fed-Ex Monday evening - well... she didn't get finished and missed the truck.

SOOOOO I offered to DRIVE her to turn it in (10 hours away). We got in the car at 2 am Monday night and hand delivered her box in San Antonio at 12:30 Tuesday. Saw the Alamo while we were there. We got back in the car at 3:30 and drove the 10 hours home again (when I hit my drive-way I had been awake 33 hours). I took pictures for the scrap book too.

I just thought some of you would appreciate this little story. Its kinda like our box becomes our life. I just couldn't let her NOT turn it in on time. While we were dead tired at school the next day, it was worth every minute to get that box to San Antonio.

Hello,

Thank you for that story I really got a laugh and then was sad because it  is so important that you had to drive the 10 hours to turn it in.  Good Luck and I hope both pass first time.

I am going to be taking my Biology assessment in a couple weeks and
I am slightly confused by what formula exercise #1 may be talking
about. My concern is - since time is running out - should I focus
on equations of a straight line, and other math applications or
should I be digging up every biology formula I know and reviewing
them???? Thanks for any input you may have.
