I'm having the same problem here. I just built a new 64-bit Windows 7 system.
I'm running as administrator and have UAC disabled. I installed the 9.0
FullInstaller and then the 9.12.4 update. Installation appeared normal, but
when I try to run N1MM logger I get the "Unexpected error; quitting" message.

Has anyone successfully installed and run N1MM on a 64-bit Windows 7 system? If
so, is there anything else I should be doing?

73,
Clay W7CE

I searched the help files and past messages but did not find anything on these
topics...

1) Example of say a QSO party where mults are by mode. If I'm operating on CW
and I type in a legal mult (say Ohio QSO Party and I type in LUCA county), I
don't see anything in N1MM that tells me I need (or don't need) this mult on
SSB? Is there something and I just don't know where to look or have some window
open? Also, nothing says I could use this station for QSO on other bands. I
didn't see any equivalent to NA/CT check call or check mult window either.

2) If one leaves the cursor in the text box for Exch and leaves this text box
(tab or space) and goes to another text box, when one returns to the exch text
box the entire field is highlighted. Why not put the cursor back where it was
when the textbox was left? (the call field remembers where the cursor was and
puts it back)

I notice that the receive number field acts this too (highlighting the entire
field).

Thanks, 73 Tim K9TM

Yes mine does it too with dual monitors, but I note that the similar
bandmap on the Logger32 does not have such a problem. I believe Logger32
is written in VB may be a later version of VB Studio?

There are problems with the Yahoo search engine - have been for months.
Yesterday it was giving me no messages after February 2009 and it sounds
like it's worse now. Try this, thanks to K3CT -- use Google and set up
your search like this: supported radios
site:groups.yahoo.com/group/n1mmlogger . The search term or terms must
go before the "site:" statement

Try a google search of N4TZ site:groups.yahoo.com/group/n1mmlogger

Someone suggested this when yahoo groups search is broken.

Mike,

Mine does the same thing - regardless of where I position the bandmap window in
the right-side monitor, the mouse-over text appears in the left-side monitor.

I believe this is a Microsoft/Windows foundation bug - nothing application
programmers can do to fix it.

This was discussed on the DXlabs reflector a while back. IIRC the concensus
was that this is a windows artifact, and not something with the software.

There was a si8milar problem in DXLABS programs and it is a Windows control

The update can be downloaded from:
http://www.pi4dec.nl/n1mm/RevisionHistory.htm

Each update includes all changes from 9.0.0 on. In general, you may
install earlier or later versions on top of one another. Bugs are fixed
only in the current version. Please confirm bugs in the current version.
Check the user group for late information on any issues with new versions.
Notes:
- If you installed 8.12.9, you don't need to download and install
V9.0.0. You already have everthing in the full installer.
- You may go back and forth between V8 and V9 versions. Just download
and install.
- Do not uninstall/reinstall. These versions are intended to be
reinstalled on top of each other.
- Make a backup of your install directory on a regular basis, especially
if upgrading from older versions!

Tom, did you use Tools-Save Window Positions after you placed the windows where
you wanted them? This will put the desired windows and position in the INI file
so that the next time you open you will have them. Also, if you temporarily
move, open or close some windows, the Restore Window Positions will put you back
in your preferred configuration with one command.

Hi Scott:

I sent a 'final' reply the other day but I don't believe it made it to the
reflector.

I was able to FIX the problem by blowing away my INI file and
restarting N1MM, allowing it to rebuild the INI file. Apparently
there was something farkled in the INI that not only caused the Band
Map not to be populated (by ANY METHOD AVAILABLE TO ME), but to also
display the Available Mults window every time I restarted the
program, even though I had specifically removed Available Mults from
the screen before shutting the program down.

Thanks for your reply.

Tom

It sounds like a related problem, though I did not have to delete the .ini file.

Hi,

I'm using N1MM with a Flex 5K and PowerSDR. As I understand it, after tuning
with PowerSDR, focus should automatically return to the N1MM entry window. This
sometimes happens and sometimes doesn't. Also, as far as I can tell at this
point, the behavior is not intermittent within a given session - i.e. after
starting up N1MM, focus either always returns to N1MM after tuning or it never
does.

The behavior when focus stays with PowerSDR is odd. The focus indicator band at
the top of PowerSDR stays solidly on while the focus band at the top of the N1MM
entry window flashes 2 or 3 times then goes back to gray. The vertical-line
cursor in the N1MM callsign entry appears and continues flashing regularly in
the normal manner but keystrokes go to PowerSDR only. Clicking on the N1MM
window returns focus to N1MM and keystrokes then go to the logger as is normal.
To put this another way, it looks like N1MM wants to grab focus but can't quite
get there.

Can anyone explain what's going on and how to fix it?

Thanks,

Mike - ke5akl

Please help with a bit of configuration for using RTTY with my Flex 5000A. I

I did a search on the group and the search engine seems to be broken.

In the main configuration screen (Configurer) should I check the digital com

continuously. If I set up under RTTY Engine 1 TX, PTT&FSK to the PTT port then
it keys normally.

I do have the digital modes tab configured for two separate instances of MMTTY

In MMTTY under setup MMVARI setup I do have the input and output set to the
appropriate Virtual Audio Cable ports. I also have RTTY Engine 1 set to the
correct audio ports.

Finally, the mark and space signal are about twice as wide as the railroad
tracks in RTTY Engine 1 and I can't properly tune or decode the signal.

All help is most welcome as I prepare for the upcoming RTTY contests.

Hi Paul,

Nice to see you here from time to time !

Say hi to the old gang for me.

I would add to what you have said by commenting that I added Uninterruptable
Power Supplies to all my rigs and computers. (And even routers and DSL
modems, etc)

This adds another measure of safety to the system.

That said....N1MM does indeed rock !

So I am finding out David. I just wish I didn't have to find out during a
contest. I was not trash mouthing N1MM, just looking for some help in finding
my lost contacts. I got the help. I found the contacts, but not till after the
contest. On the bright side, it made me Run which I usually don't like to do
and I probably made more contacts in 10 hours of operating and 10 hours of
looking for my lost file than if I had spent 20 hours in S&P. Besides, one of
my main objectives for this contest was to learn more about N1MM and Windows 7
and I sure did that. There is a bright side to most everything but sometimes it
is hard for a curmudgeon to see it.

It is not n1mm that is putting stuff under that hidden app data directory,
that is courtesy of the UAC feature of windows. If you put those files in
your 'my documents' directory or somewhere else they will stay put and you
can use them directly.

Hi Pete,

Well, now I can't get the problem to occur... However, I'm sure I was running
CW mode each time and, as well as I can recall, there was no error message from
N1MM. Instead the window about sending a debug message to Microsoft would
appear and when that was closed N1MM would immediately shut down and disappear.

No, it always starts from 'default' and doesn't save any settings at all...
it is a dumb test app just meant to exercise the functions of the ocx.

Hi Mark:

It is the same thing for the Green Heron RT-20. I believe there is a thrid party
application called LP-ROTOR, which does what you want. I am sure the experts may
have better infromation for you.

When using N1MM Rotor with my Rotor-EZ (for tailtwister) the 3 digit heading
display never goes off 000. Control from the heading buttons or the compass
rose do work. The compass rose does not reflect the heading when the antenna
is turned manually.

Do I have something mis-configured?

When using N1MM Rotor with my Rotor-EZ (for tailtwister) the 3 digit heading
display never goes off 000. Control from the heading buttons or the compass
rose do work. The compass rose does not reflect the heading when the antenna
is turned manually.

Do I have something mis-configured?

Paul, I am the one that lost my log. It in fact was lost, not gone, but in
Windows 7 things that are there are often lost for a while. Windows 7 has a
very fast search routine that only looks in certain places rather than
everywhere. I finally reverted to DOS manual search techniques to find the
missing file. I also had to find out about transaction files to know what I was
looking for. I rebuilt my file from two transaction logs and all is well now
except for the contest time lost in sorting it out. Still, I was able to make
377 Qs, so the contest was not a complete loss.

Since learning more about N1MM and Windows 7 were among my primary objectives
for this contest I will chalk it up to my learning curve. I thank John and
Scott for their clues which helped me a lot in figuring out how to cope with the
problem. I am immensely happy that I did not have to reenter any QSOs and that
my only loss was some operating time. This forum was of great benefit in
letting me air my problem and get some clues.

I have been using N1MM for three years and this is the first problem of this
nature that I have encountered. I have been using Windows 7 for a month and
Vista for two years before. For those of you who are still with XP or older,
you have a real thrill to come when you upgrade. It is almost as difficult as
from DOS to Windows. But, I plan to stay with Windows 7 and N1MM. I probably
will not get smarter, but maybe I will learn to cope!

I just wanted to comment on this thread:

Twice, yes twice in the last two contests at the K2NNY QTH, we

ahd the computer crash from RFI problems, once during SS SSB

Contest when we went to 15 meters to pick up Alaska for our

Sweep, and once in the ARRL 160 CW contest. Both times it

Was RF overload, both times, when N1MM came back up,

All of the contacts in the log were there. This also happened

During the CQWW CW DX contest at the W2FU multi-multi

Station. I was on the 40 meter mult station, I hit the F2 key to

Send the report, and BANG, the whole room shut down, 160,

80 & 40 meters, all rigs shut off, all computers went down.

(Jeff W2FU was in the other room and turned on an electric

Oven) He did not know it was on the same circuit hihi.

Bottom line; we reset the breaker, all came back up, the network

Came back up, and the contact was logged. All computers re-synced

And away we go, back to contesting without a hic up.

N1MM is the best, we have never, never lost a qso or a log with

This program (like some others, which is why everyone here uses

N1MM).

Just my .02 cents worth.

Dave,

Does your test app read the settings from N1MM and use them as the
starting point of always start from "default"?

I was thinking the other day that having a sound setup window that
allowed configuration without having to try and figure out what options
1, 2, 3, or 4 really meant would be great. When I opened your test app I
thought "Wow. This is pretty close to what I was just thinking about". I
have only just brought up the test app this morning. But I am logged in
remotely and cannot really play with it. I will try it this evening when
I am home.

By the way I am playing with the WaveTestApp because I have changed to
yet another sound card in my logging computer and was running into a new
set of strange results which I am trying to work through without
bothering anyone. For example my webcam mic gets chosen as the QSO
recording mic even if I select my SoundMax AUX input for this.

I run WindowsXP Pro SP3.

Scott, just click on File-Open log in data base and you get the form to change.
In this case it will make no difference because the Cabrillo is the file that
the ARRL uses to determine your score and category. But, for future reference,
sometimes it is important so it is a good practice to get it right. In some
cases you may need to rescore current contest for the multipliers and score to
be correct.

After the end of the 10M contest, I discovered I had inadvertently set the mode
to "Mixed", rather than CW. Is there any way to get back to the initial contest
setup window to change that? (I did edit the Cabrillo log, with which the ARRL
seems happy.) I have searched the manual and help files, without success.
