We are a group of adults who are creating a Cohousing Community at 445 Calderon Ave in Mountain View. The site is approximately 1 level acre, 6 blocks from Castro St and downtown amenities (restaurants and sidewalk cafes, bookstores, the performing arts center and library), near CalTrain, the Light Rail, and Bus Depot, adjacent to Landels Elementary School, and close to the Stevens Creek Trail. See an ABC news report on us (Oct 2009): http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/video?id=7084788
We're actively looking for others who share our vision of a supportive community, where neighbors know and care about each other, in a convenient, walkable location. We plan to begin Design Workshops in November 2009.
We envision a 20 unit condominium development plus a 4,000 sq ft. common house for shared activities (such as dining, fitness, home theater, guest rooms). Several members are avid gardeners, so our community will emphasize outdoor space for vegetable and flower gardens and fruit trees. Parking and storage will be relegated to underground areas with elevator access. We intend to use universal design and green and sustainable materials.
The project will be designed by members of our cohousing community via Design Workshops lead by award-winning architect Chuck Durrett of The Cohousing Company (www.cohousingco.com). We are working with a local developer, Wayne Aozasa, who will obtain entitlements, secure construction financing, and manage the building contractor. Construction should be completed by the fall of 2012.
