Welcome to Momculture.
This is an LDS Charlotte Mason group; however, one does not need to be LDS or to live in Utah, to participate. I consider the Charlotte Mason Method of education to be more of a lifestyle. Consider home schooling, home management, and self-development to be on topic. Feel free to ask questions of the group. May we all profit from the knowledge and experience shared by everyone here. Please practice the golden rule in making posts. If we keep this in mind, the site will be a warm friendly place. Feel free to share: your favorite living books/classics, your successes with Charlotte Mason, as well as, your struggles. From time to time, I will post thoughts to ponder and discuss, as well as, post local activities that might be of interest to the group.
What is momculture anyway? Mom is the informal form of mother. Culture is from the Latin word cultura, meaning growing, or cultivation. So, momculture would be the cultivation and personal growth of moms. Many metaphors come to mind-- a well, a lighthouse mirror, a saw, a butterfly, a pebble in a pond:
* What goes down in the well comes up in the bucket! What are we doing to fill our wells?
* Are we polished and ready to reflect and magnify His light to His children?
* Do we keep our tools in good repair; do we take time to sharpen our saw?
* As butterfly wings can change air patterns, thus affecting the weather, little things like our attitude can affect the climate of our homes. Are we effective agents of wholesome change?
* A pebble tossed into a pond, changes the whole pond forever. What ripples are we sending?
No doubt about it, our Divine role is one of impact. Through momculture we can enrich and support one another in preparing to make the impact that we were designed and destined to make. Momculture is also open to mothers wanting to discuss and improve their understanding of the Charlotte Mason method of home education.
