This is a forum for the discussion and promotion of modelling Indian Railways ( 1853 - present ) in any scale.
A brief synopsis about the prototype IR system. The Indian Railways run on a 5'6" gauge and not the standard gauge of 4'8-1/2" prevalent in many parts of the world. Besides this there are pockets of 2'6" gauge ( Shimla, Kangra Valley) , 2' gauge ( Darjeeling, Matheran) and 1000mm (Meter) gauge, a gauge that was prolific once , but is sadly fast disappearing.
Also the locomotives, rolling stock and structure are very different from their Western Counterparts. This makes it a challenge for any modeller looking to try out something new.
The development of the Indian Railways mirrors the development of the Indian Sub-Continent. You are invited to participate and contribute in the experience of modelling this colorful subcontinent.
