I'll have to second the IC-7000 - although if you're not looking for VHF/UHF maybe the IC-7200 deserves a look. I moved up from a IC-706MkIIG and improvement

Butch, For a smaller HF/V/UHF radio I'd suggest the Icom IC7000. Faceplate can be remoted via a cable and it has a video out for using a remote monitor. There
