Sami Rasouli is an Iraqi-American who grew up in Najaf. He left Iraq in the
late 1970s and eventually moved to the United States, living in the Twin
Cities area for more than 17 years. In 2004, nearly 30 years after leaving
Iraq, Sami returned to help rebuild his country. Since returning to Iraq, Sami
has worked with the Karbala Human Rights Organization in Najaf and started the
Muslim Peacemaker Team movement, a group dedicated to the principles of
nonviolence. Sami returns to the U.S. for two to three months each year to
help build bridges between the peoples of his two homes.
Sami will share his day-to-day experiences in Iraq and his insights about the
role of the U.S. military, the resistance, the political climate, social
conditions and the aspirations, hopes, and dreams of ordinary Iraqi people.
He will be bringing, for sale, original Iraqi art pieces from adult artists and
children. Proceeds will go one-half to the artists and one-half to the Muslim
Peacemaker Teams.
