October potluck for ECAPC

Dear Friends of Every Church a Peace Church (ECAPC),

Just a reminder that our next ECAPC potluck gathering
will be this coming Monday:

Monday, November 14, 2005 at 6:30 PM
St. Joan of Arc Church
4537 - 3rd Avenue South, Minneapolis
     (exit 35W at 46th Street; 1 l/2 block east to 3rd
Avenue; 1/2 block south on 3rd)
In Hospitality Hall in the basement of the church

The topic at this potluck will be depleted uranium,
commonly referred to as DU.  We will view a video
documentary entitled POISON DUST which features a
cross-section of people who have suffered severe
medical problems following exposure to depleted
uranium munitions.

While the Pentagon continues to deny that DU is linked
to the serious medical problems experienced by many
soldiers who were exposed to DU during the 1991 war in
Iraq and the 1999 Balkan war, independent experts such
as Dr. Helen Caldicott, Dr. Rosalie Bertell and health
physicist, Doug Rokke, insist otherwise.  Depleted
uranium is still 60% as radioactive as natural uranium
and that it is a heavy metal, 1.7 times as heavy as
lead, and therefore a chemically toxic metal.

In the most recent war, DU munitions were used in
heavily populated urban areas of Iraq, exposing huge
numbers of Iraqi civilians and American soldiers to
this lethal weapon.
We believe the use of these munitions should raise
serious ethical questions for Christians.

We hope you will join us.

Also: Have a discussion with your clergyperson.  Ask
them "What do you tell youth that ask you about
Conscientious Objection?"

We hope to have a discussion about the responses
people receive to this question at the October
potluck.
