Mixed Media Artists of Northern CA is a friendly group for artists interested in working with paint, paper, fabrics, collage, altered art (books, cd, cigar boxes - if it can be altered we'll try it) and many other art and found materials. We are interested in exploring techniques, sharing new ideas, learning from each other, and enjoying our common interests.
We meet once a month from January - April and June -Oct. on the last Sunday of the month at Beverly's Unique Scrapbooking Store, 5964 S Land Park Dr, Sacramento, from 2 to 5 p.m. (No regularly scheduled meetings Nov. or Dec.) At the meetings we have demonstrations, hands-on projects, a fabulous show and tell, and sometimes we share and swap supplies.
In 2005 the group was formed as Collage Artists of Sacramento. We found we were more interested in working with other mediums as well, and thus Mixed Media Artists of Northern CA was established.
During the first year we exchanged art work by making small books (decos) and passing them amongst members so each person could work in each book. This helped us get acquainted as we became familiar with each other's favorite techniques, styles, colors, etc. Then we experimented with making a page for each other's books, given only the size of the page and the subject.
In January 2006 we began to explore artistic techniques and interpretations of altered books. January 2007 we changed our hours to give us time to allow time for hands-on projects, led by volunteers from our group. In 2008 we began monthly challenges to be worked on during the month and shown at the next meeting.
